The questions I have are the following: I am creating a student tracking database that will hold all our students that have gone through Adult Education Classes over the last 5 years. I will be receiving the data in several Excel Spreadsheets (1 sheet will have course ID, Abbreviated Title, Detailed Title, Start Date, End Date, Current Enrollment, Contact Hours, Location, Class Days, Instructor ID, Instructor Name, Cost of Course, Location Code, Number of Weeks, Out of District ZIP, Approval Number and if the Course is Contract or not) other sheets will have Enrollment Info (Student ID Full Name, CEU's, Class Number, Instructor)and the last will have Student Info (Name, Address, City, State, ZIP, County, Home Phone, Work Phone, Gender, etc.)
1.) I want to be able to import each of the specific Worksheets into their respective tables (Class, Instructor, Students, etc.)There will be codes that I will need to lookup to get the specific piece of information (i.e., Ethnicity is a number that corresponds to a specific Ethnic group, 1= White, Non-Hispanic, 2= African American ...) there are several type matches that need to be done. So, should I just import the number and do the lookup when I report or should I convert and store the text instead of the number?
2.) If I have a table for Instructor and one for Course, how would I go about cross referencing instructor to course during the import?
3. Once the initial load happens, I will need to update or add new records on a regular basis. What is the best way to handle this?
I'm sorry if these questions are just old school for Alpha Guru's, but I'm just starting to learn Alpha and I would appreciate any advice or direction. There is a database I found on here that looks very promising as a starting point. I've attached it.
