Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Modal issue

I recently found that is I had modal forms that when I went to a report, it had no menu or tool bars even though it was modeless. My work around which does the job was to make everything modeless. problem is that when someone clicks the background outside the form, it becomes the foreground and the user looses their view. This is OK for me as I know what to do to get it back, but the user may (and often) not.

How would i best keep the view from dissappearing if I cannot use the modeless approach because of the other problem?

tip --> try writing without using ambiguous pronouns like "it".

Mark, if you don't want the user clicking outside the report preview window why are you making it modeless? Shouldn't the report preview window be modal? I must still be missing something. Sorry. --tom

          Re: Modal issue

Yep you are. Doesn't matter - did another work around. The reason I could not make them modal was when I moved to a report from a modal form in print preview, the report menu would not appear, even though the report is modeless. Closing the modal form before going to the report made no difference.

            Re: Modal issue

Here's an example of modal form (that has no menu or toolbar) that previews a report which has its own toolbar. (but no menu)

To see this, unzip the attachment to an empty folder.

Open the database, close the main menu.
            Open the Toms_invoic form.

PUsh the "call modal form button "
            Push the "Preview Report" button.

            Hope this helps.

              Thanks Tom,

I thought that a modal left it without a menu. Not so when it is modal for a report. I got (it) the report to work based on your example.

                hi to all,

this is the one i have trouble in v9 (modal window)

i have multiple print preview w/ different reports in a button (modeless window) using v8 is no problem in terms of focus in every subsequent reports

using v9 now - you must set it to modal window to have focus on it!
and now my custom toolbars for my print preview is useless
what happen to the modeless window in print preview on multiple reports?

i have no problem on focus using the past version when it comes to print preview w/ multiple and different reports in a button and using my custom toolbar for printing.

this is also a bug for me in v9.
any other ideas rather than setting it to modal window? i dont like modal window in print preview (multiple reports in sequence)

Let your support know how special and important they are.
Be sincere when you tell them!
