Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Right Click Menu

I want to disable right click on a few text fields but cannot work it out.

I have selected rightclick (menu/toolbars, Rightclick menu) in the textbox properties to none but I still get the rightclick menu pop up whenI try it.

Anyone point me in the right direction so I can move on.

    Thanks

    Re: Right Click Menu

I have NOT done this, so I cannot promise it will work!!

Having said that, try opening up the Control Panel, click the Code tab, right click in the white space and select New Menu. Then click the plus sign to the left of Form Right-click Menu, click the plus to the left of Field Selected, Change/Enter Mode and then click the OK button in the upper right corner and you can now add (or delete) what is on the right click menu for the selected field.

    Good luck,

Seems Only to be the Text boxes (Type In Boxes).

Just when I think i'm getting somewhere.

Could someone try and disable a type in box in a test file for me just to see if its me thats not at fault please.

Type in box properties, menu/toolbars and set all right clicking to none.

            Thanks

                H (real name please!),
I will look later this afternoon if noone else does. The problem with no response even with giving a sample is that many people do not know or can extract a .rar file.

For those here that this is the problem I created it as a zip.

                Mike

                  rar file!,

                  That could be the problem.

Hey thanks Mike. Would much appreciate your help.

                    Harry,
I checked it and it should be working as stated...does for image ref fields, form, and form objects (such as buttons), but does not apparently work for regular character fields---whether for one or for all, it simply cannot be set to <NONE> or even to a specific menu.

IOW--you now have the privilege of being able to submit a bug--I would do this directly to Alpha via the Help of Alpha's main menu AND also add it to a special compilation that is being created on Steve Woods website.

Check out post 39 of this thread for the bug compilation list

                      Mike,

Thankyou very much for your time spent on the matter.

I said earlier in one of my posts its bugging me now, well maybe I was was right. I spent hours trying to sort that out as well.

I am very new to Alpha, my first product bought less than a week ago. I am really enjoying playing around at the moment with the product but lets hope this bug stuff that people is going on about with v9 gets sorted.

I will submit the bug Mike and add it to the special compilation on Steves website.

                        Re: Right Click Menu

Sorry, this is not a bug. It says right on the Menus/Toolbar dialog that this Right-Click menu only applies if the form is Modal or Allow Edit is off. Go to Form and uncheck Allow Edits, and the Right-click menus have their applied setting.

It also states you can change the right click menu for editable (modeless/unlocked) fields as well.....I will check it out later on this afternoon given time in case I totally am not seeing straight!! :)

I have seen that Steve but I want to allow someone to edit ( Enter data and Change data in the character fields) but not use the right click so "Allow Edit" must be ticked, Ithink (remember I am just learning).

Even if I wanted the user to use right click on a character field, then I should be able to custom it shouldnt I.

                            Maybe it's me I don't know.

                              Re: Right Click Menu

There is some evidence at the bottom of this Help page that you can create right-click for additional situations including unlocked fields. It appears to require some code creation and I cannot tell if you can disable the menu using any of the methods listed: http://support.alphasoftware.com/alp...lick_Menus.htm

On the "is it a bug" - there is a difference between "I should be able to do XYZ" and a bug. If "should be able" was the criteria then everyone would have a different set of bugs for the same product.
