Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Installing on Windows Server 2008

I am having difficulty getting A5V9 Full to install on Windows Server 2008. The program always wants to run as the run engine. I have removed V9 and cleaned the registry as best I could. With a new download from Alpha, the problem is still present.

Does anyone have any experience installing the Full version on Server 2008?

    Hi Rodney,
The program always wants to run as the run engine
Is that because you are trying to run Alpha from the desktop Icon?

Check the properties, I imagine the path is to V9 Runtime.

Start Alpha from Start -> All programs. When you have the CP open, from the Tool bar create a shortcut.

Re: Installing on Windows Server 2008

      Thanks Keith for responding.

I have uninstalled both flavors of V9 and removed all folders and cleaned the registry as best as possible. I then reinstalled the Full V9 and ran it from the program folder. Still wants to run as the Run Engine. It appears some key components needed to run in the full mode failed to install.

      Thanks again.

Don't know whether you have a license for Run Engine, but if you do you might be putting that license number in instead of the one for the full version.

          Thanks Doug for your reply.

I did have the Run Engine installed, but as indicated, I uninstalled both flavors of V9 then reinstalled the Full version. I am not prompted with dialog for key entry.

            Rodney,
Please try what Keith asked....otherwise no sense in any other "guesses".

When a Runtime/RunEngine is installed on a computer that also has the full development version installed, it can/will happen that the shortcut path is overwritten. THIS is why Keith asked the question and gave you the most prevalent solution for this issue.

              Thanks for the reply MikeC.

If you will read my response to Keith, you will notice that I did indeed attempt to run the program from within the program folder itself AFTER removing all known references to V9 from the computer. Also noted in my response was the fact of a new install using a newly downloaded copy of the full version of 9.

                Rodney,
You have twice said that you "... ran it from the program folder...". That is not what is needed. Run it from your windows Start-->Program Files-->Alpha shortcut. And you never stated if the shortcut path that you use is the correct path to your development Alpha. This is what needs to be specifically answered in order to further diagnose your issue. The adb in the install folder is not how Alpha should be started BTW. Use a shortcut that has the path to the adb.....either a correct one on your Start-->Program Files-->Alpha or a correct one on your desktop.

Perhaps this will clear the muddy waters. I ran Alpha Five V9 Full from the install folder of Alpha Five V9 Full not the adb. No where in any of the replies was the adb ever mentioned. The shortcut simply points to the exe file. I ran the exe file from the program files folder of Alpha Five V9 Full. And yes I did run it from the shortcut created by Alpha. All attempts result in the same.
