I have a form with several tabs including "leads". When I try to use a lookup table to insert a new record, my "leads" tab disappears. Any suggestions? Check out the pictures.

The Alpha Software Forum is a free forum created for Alpha Software Developer Community to ask for help, exchange ideas, and share solutions. Alpha Software strives to create an environment where all members of the community can feel safe to participate. In order to ensure the Alpha Software Forum is a place where all feel welcome, forum participants are expected to behave as follows:
Be sure all comments and threads you post are respectful. Posts that contain any of the following content will be considered a violation of your agreement as a member of the Alpha Software Forum Community and will be moderated:
If a thread or post is found to contain any of the content outlined above, a moderator may choose to take one of the following actions:
Moderators may also rename posts and threads if they are too generic or do not property reflect the content.
Moderators may move threads if they have been posted in the incorrect forum.
Threads/Posts questioning specific moderator decisions or actions (such as "why was a user banned?") are not allowed and will be removed.
The owners of Alpha Software Corporation (Forum Owner) reserve the right to remove, edit, move, or close any thread for any reason; or ban any forum member without notice, reason, or explanation.

Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting
Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.
When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.
The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.
When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.
A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.
If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.
When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.
Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: Error with Tabs
Your second pic shows a form open over your tabs form. I am not sure about the third. What is the third pic supposed to show?
a form can be sized and placed.
I do not use tabs, but conditional objects instead. It looks like a tabbed form, but is really a line of buttons. I found I could exert much more control with buttons and conditional objects.
At leas you may get some more help on this.

Re: Error with Tabs
From the first picture, I use the arrow in the lookup field in the embedded browse to look up the lead which is the second picture. Once Ive chose the lead, the lookup table closes. When it closes and goes back to the original form, all of my tabs are gone.
I've used conditional objects before too, just felt like tabs might be easier for multiple "tabs"

Re: Error with Tabs
Kristie,
I think the disappearing tabs results from a focus change. I have had this problem with tabs, too. Try this: open the tab form in design mode, right click and go to Order. Play around with moving from front to back and vice versa. That fixed my problem with the disappearing tabs. I never figured out which way to move what, but eventually I found the right combination.Cliff

Re: Error with Tabs
Hi Kristie,Hey, why does Alpha use conditions on panes in the Alpha sports program? Why use conditions when you can just use a tabbed form? (vendors, products form on alpha sports)
V10 has conditional objects in Alphs Sports, instead of Tabs.Regards

Re: Error with Tabs
There are tabs in version 5 through version 8.....and Keith implied that version 9 also has tabs. Why version 10 is different? Maybe to show a different way of doing it....but then you would think that they would have both to show the comparison. Seems like a small lapse of judgement/missed opportunity IMO as the comparison would have been a great learning aspect of AlphaSports.

Re: Error with Tabs
After spending hours designing a beautiful form, I ran across the same problem everyone else did when they put a tabbed control on the form.
Here is a work-a-round.
Create a new form based on the table you're using for the form that is giving problems. Make it custom so that you can pick the fields yourself.
Pick a small number of fields. In my case I only chose the first three fields.
When you are asked for the style, just pick the default. The end result will be a form with three fields on it.
Place a tabbed control on it. By default it has three tabs. Test the form without doing a save. All tabs will function properly.
Back in design mode, rename the tabs to anything else and test again -- do not save the form before testing.
Now go to the form that is giving you problems. Right click somewhere on the form not near a control and look for stylesheet. Click on it and pick the default. It will reapply the defaults to your form. This might take some time! It probably won't look pretty to you but test it without a save. All your tabs should work properly.
What you do next is very important. DO NOT SAVE THE FORM. Just close it.
Now test your form that was not working. It should work the way you designed it.
What do you do with the form you created in the first step? Thrown it away.
This is the second time that I've experienced a problem that is related to the stylesheets. It makes one wonder if one should work on a custom sytlesheet at all?
Anyway, the above worked for me and I hope it works for you. In testing, I also had a 4-tab control. It appeared that the problem would occur on every other click of a tab. Question might be is it the same pattern for an odd number of tabs?
Good luck and I hope you have success with it.

Re: Error with Tabs
Keith, I think Kristie was using version 9.
On my end I had version 10, Build 2625 that was downloaded 12/11/09. It had the same tabbed problem described.
Now I am not sure if this is a bug in version 10. Why? In version 10 I opened a version 9 development. I assumed all the files worked properly in V10 because everything ran properly. It was when I tried the tabbed control that it went hay-wire and then posted above message detailing what I did as a work-a-round.
I just downloaded 2641_3512. I'll test to see if this has a tabbed control problem. These upgrades are coming out like water through a leaky faucet.

Re: Error with Tabs
Hi Wayne,
I believe that Kristie was using V10 as she referred to the "vendors, products form on alpha sports" with "conditions on panes" which is how it is in V10 and not in V9 which does have Tabs on the form mentioned.
There was an issue with disappearing tabs in an earlier release of V10 and this was reported in the V10 section. This has now been fixed along with some other enhancements.these upgrades are coming out like water through a leaky faucetRegards

Re: Error with Tabs
Hi Keith,
I tested the latest available build in V10 and it does seem to work properly.
Regarding the upgrade ie so many like a leaky faucet:
I think upgrades are good. However, the comment only meant that there were so many of them in a short span of time after the release of a "new" version, that some of this should have been addressed before the product was released. The testing of a new version should have incorporated all the facets of the old - tabbed controls in this particular discussion - to see that they indeed function properly.
Another example: the alpha sort control under the superconrol might have included a test to see if one is using a legacy stylesheet; this control does not work under that condition. Perhaps a little message box saying something would have been in order so that the developer would know not to use legacy stylesheets. This could have saved a lot of time for the developer first, in thinking (s)/he is doing something wrong and second, searching the message board to find a similar problem. I'm not exactly sure if the latest build addresses this problem. Some more feedback is in order.
Just to be fair, it's not all negative. Obviously, since I upgraded from V9 to V10, there are many things that I like about it and if I had the time, I would put some of them as an accompaniment.
Well, it's time to get back to work.
Anyone working on some stylesheet for the holiday season?
PS. One actually might like a leaky pipe if, in the dead of winter, the temperature is <=32 and you have a water pipe near an outside wall. The drip keeps the water flowing so the pipe won't freeze (and bust).Last edited by WayneS; 12-19-2009, 11:27 AM.
