Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

I am guessing, this is what you want. If so, code to follow.

      Hi Gabe,

That looks spot on, just so long as the image ref saved in the table can be used in a report.

I look forward to your code and appreciate your efforts.

        Keith:
Sorry about the delay in getting back with you.
That code involves a trick within a trick within a trick.. it is not the best thing in the world. Perhaps, the best I could do with v8, but in v9 I am pretty sure the code would look more streamlined. In v10? I don't have a clue.

That said, I think the radio is totally redundant. Your reason for using a radio object and your objective is to make sure the user could only choose one image. So here is a very simple and handy idea, maybe not the most elegant but not too shabby either:

In the OnArrive event of the image reference field on the form put an event that triggers a modal xdlg. The xdlg will only have the images as buttons and you could arrange them in any way you want: vertically, horizontally, in multiple rows...etc. There will be no other buttons (no OK, Cancel..). When the user clicks an image, it will change the one in the field in the form and closes the xdlg, i.e. the user could only click one. If the user changes their mind, click again, the xdlg appears, choose an image and the xdlg will close.

The thing about images is that you could do endless and very elegant menus with them anywhere from a sunburst menu to a rotating menu to a sliding menu, to a book page flipping menu..etc. And I hate to think about this issue any more because all these ideas keep coming to mind and I don't want to settle for a generic menu but unfortunately I don't have the time to do a more elaborate one. I have done many of these in my applications, but they are not cut & paste. You might have to re-engineer your application which is not realistic. So, for now, I think an xdlg will do. Of course, if you want to make it more cosmetic, you could use a form based on the same table in lieu of the xdlg.

          Hi Gabe,

Thanks for the explanation, not too sure what it all means.

What I was hoping to see was the "how it was done from the video" you uploaded to demonstrate your idea.
That code involves a trick within a trick within a trick..
That's fine, we all like to learn new tricks, especially from you.

Are you now saying that you cant show the code? That is most disappointing.

I modified your form slightly. It is still rather crude but perhaps it will be of some assistance.

I would be interested to see your form, however crude it may be.

Obviously, I need remedial training on sending files. Let's see if this works!

                  Re: Image Selector Help.

                  Hi Keith,
I can easily have the radio buttons come up and filtered by Category but the image reference field is having problems.

I will spend a bit more time later if needed---v9 does not let me dynamically set the image ref field (it temporarily changes the text instead of the value as it is supposed to). An "odd" behavior if not a bug.

                  Mike

                    Hi Mike,

Thanks for all your help today.

Doug, thanks for showing how to put images into a Rado button object.

Do you know how to it dynamically? What happens if the user wants to add a new image?

We are still waiting to see this trick of yours.

The only trick I see you do, and I must say you do it very well, is the vanishing one.

You must remember, your answers are not just for my benefit but all users of this forum. It is not nice to make promises of showing how to do something and then not keeping to it.

So, how about that trick within the trick?
