Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    how to apply filter on a browse?

    hi to all,

    i have created a set, supplier.dbf is the primary table and purmas.dbf is the child table and the link type is one is to many. i have set the child table filter to paid field to .f. (which is a logical type field).

    how can i reverse the filter to .t. during runtime and refresh the browse.

    one that i think is put a check box on the parent form and toggle it but don't know the xbasic expression.

    Hi Francis,

    Remove the filter on the form and have a twostate button on the form. Click once to filter All Paid, click again to show all, or All Not Paid.

    That's my suggestion, as this can be done with Action Script, no need to worry about Xbasic.

      Sounds easy but which action script to use? How do you apply a filter to a two state button? Would you make them conditional actions?

        Probably run a saved query (or inline xbasic which queries).

        How do you apply a filter to a two state button?
        You don't. Script the onchange event to run a query based on the value in the field.

        Would you make them conditional actions?
        Yes.
        There can be only one.

          I tried to put actions in the onpush event for either a two state button or a multi-select buttons but no actions are fired. I have the button tied to a global variable but when the any of the buttons are pressed no actions fire. I was going to run the saved query conditionally but I cannot get it to run with no conditions. Am I missing something here?

            There is no onpush event for a two state button or a multistate button. Script the onchange event.

                  remove the following code from radio1 on change event. (this makes the record go to the first record if you perform to switch filter other than the first record.)

                  Code:
                  [COLOR="Blue"]'Turn off query in in current form.
                  topparent.show_all()[/COLOR]

                    Hi Stan,

                    Sorry to drag up this old item but I'm trying to get this to work in a new application.

                    When the form opens the variable is False. I have the following code in the OnChange event.
                    Code:
                    'Update value in existing variable 'vl_dress' to '.t.
                    vl_dress = .T.

                    'Conditional code follows. Executes only if the condition expression is True.
                    IF a5_eval_expression("=Var->vl_dress=.T.",local_variables()) THEN
                    'Run Saved Query 'Garment_Dress' in current form.
                    topparent.Run_Saved_Query("Garment_Dress")

                    END IF

                    'Conditional code follows. Executes only if the condition expression is True.
                    IF a5_eval_expression("=Var->vl_dress=.F.",local_variables()) THEN
                    'Execute inline Xbasic code.
                    'Turn off query in in current form.
                    topparent.show_all()
                    END IF
                    The code runs and filters the browse, what I cant get to work, is to set the variable vl_dress back to false when the Two-State button is pressed again so I can remove the query.

                    Please advise, what am I missing?

                      You are always setting the variable to .t.

                        Re: how to apply filter on a browse?

                        I have the following code in the OnChange event.
                        'Update value in existing variable 'vl_dress' to '.t.
                        vl_dress = .T.
                        The initial value for the variable needs to be set in the form properties, whether it be true or false.

                        The onchange should "toggle" the variable's value.

                        Code:
                        'Toggle value in existing variable 'vl_dress'
                        vl_dress = (.not. vl_dress)

                        'Conditional code follows. Executes only if the condition expression is True.
                        IF a5_eval_expression("=Var->vl_dress=.T.",local_variables()) THEN
                        'Run Saved Query 'Garment_Dress' in current form.
                        topparent.Run_Saved_Query("Garment_Dress")

                          Thanks Guys,

                          This is what I ended up with.
                          Code:
                          'Conditional code follows. Executes only if the condition expression is True.
                          IF a5_eval_expression("=Var->vl_dress=.T.",local_variables()) THEN

                          END IF

                          'Conditional code follows. Executes only if the condition expression is True.
                          IF a5_eval_expression("=Var->vl_dress=.f.",local_variables()) THEN
                          'Execute inline Xbasic code.
                          'Turn off query in in current form.
                          topparent.show_all()
                          END IF
                          Trying to set variable in the code was causing the problem.
