Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

labels not lined up in address labels

I went to the labels tab, selected new, used the label genie, selected the standard Avery label which is 1" x 2-5/8" by 3 across.
When I print the labels they are not lined up by row. As you go down the rows, the labels keep moving up. This is very frustrating. How can I correct this?

You can tweak the label settings in design mode. Try adjusting (increasing) the gutter height slightly.

Re: labels not lined up in address labels

Ok, I did as the directions in the help link and I set the gutter to 0.05 and that helped. Now I have 6 other labels set to another table and it has moved those off the bottom of the page. I saved my file to the library instead of with the label. Now I get a message that says "Warning Standard label size Avery 5260 is not found!" I have restored a copy to a different dirrectory from a week ago and I still have the same missing label. I thought it would correct it. I have installed my original install file and the lastest update and still have the problm of "Warning Standard label size Avery 5260 is not found!" Any suggestions?
      Thank you,

You're probably going to have to reinstall Alpha.

I did install my original install file and then I installed the latest update.

Re: labels not lined up in address labels

Message #5 was referring to message #3. Sorry, I should have been more clear. It still didn't work on the labels that I had already created.
Since then, I have un-installed and deleted the Alpha 5 directory in Program Files, reinstalled and installed the latest patch.
I fixed the labels I had already created, by going into each one and clicking the option to "save with label", not to library. That has corrected the error message on those. If I create a new label, the library definitions of the labels are not there. In version 8 the library definitions are there in that database. The link you gave me was very helpful, I was drawing a blank on how to adust the labels.
I can live with creating the definition for new labels, the problem I had was, when I created the new label based off of the standard label definitions in Alpha and printed the first set of labels, at the bottom of the page of labels they were 1/2" higher than should have been. When I went to adust the gutter, it helped and after printing several pages testing to check to see if aliened, but I would change the gutter in small increments and now the gutter is set at 0 and they are printing fine. So I have no idea what I did to get the labels to print correct. It is working now, I do appreciate your help.

I recommend that even if the label you want to use is not particularly close to a standard size. If memory serves you will have fewer problems if you start from a standard size, save with label, then customize.

                Happly labeling.
