Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Alpha 5 printer icon

I'm trying to use the suggested fix so I can email pdf reports using Win 7 64bit but I don't see an Alpha 5 printer icon listed under Printers.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The suggested fix is described below:

    http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...ight=pdf+error

Here is a solution I just found on the Amyuni Forum and IT WORKED!!!!! I can now print to PDF files using Alpha5 Version 9 on my Vista 64 Bit machine.

I modified it slightly to pertain to Alpha from what was on their forum.

    1) Make sure that you are logged in as a user with administrator rights.
    2) Select Control Panel, and click Printers.
    3) Right-click the Alpha Five Printer icon
    4) Select the Ports tab, then click the Add Port... button.
    5) Select Local Port and click the New Port... button.
    6) Enter NUL: for the new port name and click OK. Close the Printer Ports window.
    7) Ensure that the NUL: port is selected in the Ports list.
    8) Select the Advanced tab.
    9) Select the Spool print documents radio button to make the options below it clickable.
    10) Clear (uncheck) the box labeled Enable advanced printing features.
    11) Select the Print directly to printer radio button again.
    12) Click the Apply button, and then click OK.

    Re: Alpha 5 printer icon

    Ed,
but I don't see an Alpha 5 printer icon listed under Printers.
Something is amiss as I have at least one Alpha printer listed on every computer I have used with Alpha (5 pcs). Where are you looking for the printer?? And are you certain that you did not simply miss it as it is named a bit different at times on different computers?--such as Auto Alpha Five Printer ....

      Re: Alpha 5 printer icon

      Mike,

On my Win 7 64 bit pc I'm looking at the printers listed inside the control panel.

It's only showing my installed network laser printer, a fax icon, & Microsoft XPS Document Writer.

On my Win XP 32 bit pc I see a pdf driver, (as well as other printers), & under properties the Model is listed as Amyuni PDF Converter 157. Is this the Alpha 5 driver?

      Thanks for the reply!

It should show Alpha Five Printer as a printer in start\settings\printers.

          Re: Alpha 5 printer icon

There is some very peculiar behavior in Windows 7 64 bit. If I open up "Devices and Printers", one of the printers listed is the "Amyuni Document Converter". This is what A5 uses to generate PDFs. If I close "Devices and Printers" and then reopen it, the same printer is sometimes listed as the "Alpha 5 Document Printer". Doesn't really matter, if you see either one you should have no trouble creating PDF files.

            Thanks Nick,

unfortunately neither printer icons you suggest show up under my Printer list. I even uninstalled A5 & reinstalled it but no luck.
When I try to email a pdf report A5 says the printer driver is not installed & offers to install it. It fails to install it saying maybe I don't have admin. rights even though I do.

              Re: Alpha 5 printer icon

The print driver supplied in A5V9 works just fine in Windows 7 64 bit. You just need to provide this very simple fix.

Go to the Alpha5 Program directory. Find the file named InstallAmuyuniPrinters. Run the program and everything should work. (You may have to run it twice)

                Thanks Nick,
                that did the trick.
I swore I did this before, but this time it worked.

                Appreciate the help.
