Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

data disappears when cursor arrives into tabbed form with sub form

In a set, one master, 3 child tables all on the same level, one below master.

We have a tabbed form, that has 3 subforms relating to 3 child tables each.

With ONLY one of the troublesome tables/subforms, the user enters the subform, placing the cursor in any of the fields, and the data disappears from view. CRAZY! if you navigate away from the master record, to another record, the data for the other record appears normally.

If you go back to the record where the data disappeared, it is BACK!

All indexes are clean, table packed etc.

One flakey item of note. When the form is loaded from scratch, then user changes the index in use, the FIRST and only the first time the user enters a cursor in the form it behaves normally. Then if you move around to another record, it happens again.. quite a puzzle!

Please help out if you know something I should

Re: data disappears when cursor arrives into tabbed form with sub form

There have been a couple of threads recently regarding issues with tab objects. Your issue however appears to be different than what I have seen reported in the past.

Do you experience any of these issues when you use the default form based on the set?

Have you tried eliminating the tab object for testing? Just work with a form that contains all of the fields that were on the tabs of the tab object.

Recreating the tabbed object may help, had this fix a tab object that was acting wonky for me.

If you have any xbasic or action scripts running on the form I suggest disabling them and re-enabling them one at a time for testing.

Uploading a sample that can be used to recreate the issue will also help. You would also need to include the steps needed to reproduce the issue.

If you find a solution to your problem report back here so others may know. In case someone else has the same issue.

have recreated the form from scratch, got the same result.

there are no xbasic scripts running, etc.

I have tried everything i can think of.

the other tables are working great.. but not this one in particular.

Will upload a sample shortly.. and THANKS

Re: data disappears when cursor arrives into tabbed form with sub form

        found the cause !!

The set link on the child table was a one to many. The sub form had NO browse, just displayed single records. For the other two tables and subforms, the main parent form had scroll windows to allow for display of a list of linked records. \

        To cure

I changed the link to a one to one link, as this is what the business needs call for anyway.
The other solution would be to add a scrolling window in the parent form to match the other tables.

Good luck everyone.. this is problem with the design Alphas form code I believe, but what do I know.
