I can't describe the level of ANGER that I have again over this issue. I can't believe I am the only one. When in code editor, I open a script to copy part of the code from it. I copy and TAB to the script I am building, and the next thing I know, the Code editor has replaced the code in the script I opened to borrow from with the script I am building, and my script is lost. GONE. COMPLETELY replaced and LOST!!!!! Hour now LOST!!!

The Alpha Software Forum Participation Guidelines
The Alpha Software Forum is a free forum created for Alpha Software Developer Community to ask for help, exchange ideas, and share solutions. Alpha Software strives to create an environment where all members of the community can feel safe to participate. In order to ensure the Alpha Software Forum is a place where all feel welcome, forum participants are expected to behave as follows:
Be sure all comments and threads you post are respectful. Posts that contain any of the following content will be considered a violation of your agreement as a member of the Alpha Software Forum Community and will be moderated:
If a thread or post is found to contain any of the content outlined above, a moderator may choose to take one of the following actions:
Moderators may also rename posts and threads if they are too generic or do not property reflect the content.
Moderators may move threads if they have been posted in the incorrect forum.
Threads/Posts questioning specific moderator decisions or actions (such as "why was a user banned?") are not allowed and will be removed.
The owners of Alpha Software Corporation (Forum Owner) reserve the right to remove, edit, move, or close any thread for any reason; or ban any forum member without notice, reason, or explanation.
Community members are encouraged to click the "Report Post" icon in the lower left of a given post if they feel the post is in violation of the rules. This will alert the Moderators to take a look.
Alpha Software Corporation may amend the guidelines from time to time and may also vary the procedures it sets out where appropriate in a particular case. Your agreement to comply with the guidelines will be deemed agreement to any changes to it.
Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting
Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.
When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.
The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.
When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.
A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.
If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.
When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.
Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

I open a script to copy part of the code from it. I copy and TAB to the script I am building
Or do you mean you activate the tab of the second script? There can be only one.

Re: Code Editor replaced script
Put passwords on your scripts and then try to open multiple scripts at once. Then you'll REALLY have problems.
I don't recall the details for sure but I think if you don't check the "save password" box it ends up copying the same code into every script. Whatever causes it to happen, if you exit immediately and don't save anything, you can usually just re-open them one at a time and everything will still be there. Maybe this will work in your case as well.

Re: Code Editor replaced script
Hi Cal,
I don't use passwords while developing. I can't be sure but I believe that this happens only while having more than two scripts open. I believ a behavior change on my part of not allowing myself a bunch of open scripts my be my best solution. It will be tough though, when I'm working through a main script with several nested UDFs. I'll do my best to limit to 2.Mike W

Re: Code Editor replaced script
Interesting. I often have 5-7 scripts open and, although not every day, it's not unusual to have enough open that I have to use the little "scroll arrows" to see all the script tabs. The only time I've had trouble with 'duplicating' a script is as mentioned above.
On the other hand:
1. As I said on another thread today, sometimes computers seem to have a mind of their own and I can believe almost anything.
2. I've seen a given generic app generate completely different errors when run on different machines so, again, I can believe almost anything. (I believe mine to be "memory conflict errors" as there is nothing in my code that should cause them and, moreover, the errors are random and do not always make sense and do not always occur at the same place in the script or even in the same script. Maybe something like this is happening to you. Example: "tpr.index_pr - property not found" at line 234 when line 234 actually says "tpr.index_primary_put("Corp_id_")". Note that the error message didn't even show the full function name and that index_primary_put is not a property. Obviously not a problem in my code. Besides, this same script ran probably 50-100 times a day without problems for years so why an error this time? This is the kind of thing that has been happening to me in v9 and I'm hoping will be solved in v10.)

Hi Cal et al,

I've seen this overwriting of a script during development of script editor handling code in the CSDA Code Utility and have found it to be frustrating, because I can't use my own utility's backup when developing this complex code!
It basically happens, I believe, when you change tabs in the code editor, and the screen has changed before the edit buffer is moved to it's temporary location. Why this is an asynchronous event, I don't understand, but I can make changes to the scripts in the editor, and have menu bars not follow the tab context. And occasionally a script is overwritten.
But this is not normally the case when dealing with regular code that is not manipulating the code editor, but I have seen it happen.Regards,

Re: Code Editor replaced script
I've been using this ALPHA5 since version 3 I think. I've just starting having the problem with the latest release of version 10.5. This is what I've learned so far;
- It's a very rare problem I think we know that though!
- It happens when tabs are switched and the code in the editor for some reason doesn't get switched out.
- Only happens to me when I open an additional preexisting script.
- Doesn't matter how I open the additional script it still occurs.
- Switching to the Interactive tab before opening an additional preexisting script avoids the problem.
- Its a good idea to put the name of the script at the top of every script and refer to it before saving anything.
