Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    My Report needs a variable Order (Sequence)

    Hi there,

    I have a Report Debt_Email_List in which I have a sequence (Order) using Set Debt / Table Debt / Field E_mlf. That works fine. However I want to invoke the Report from a Button Management Report - 8 which resides on Form Debt_SElect_m and introduce an option to print the report in different sequences. I'm trying a variable - not sure what else would work. I understand that the Report demands a Field E_Mlf on which to sequence, and the best I can do after messing with it is to end up with a variable containing a Char string "E_mlf" which is something completely different

    I attach my db.

    Can anyone advise how you would go about it.

    Looking forward.

    To see what's going :

    1. Invoke db. It should display Form Debtors Selection
    2. Select Button Management Reports - 8
    3. Select #2 Debtors Email List, Sequence Account name. Preview
    4. Accept Argument Values as shown.

    The Report displays in Acc E-Mail seq.

    I Have created a Global Var gd_rep_seq. How do I transfer that successfully to the Report ? (This example does not have a meaningful Var gd_rep_seq content, so I have just left it as is until I get some direction)

    Dave,

    I haven't looked at your db, but to change the order and filtering of the report, take them out of the report and put them into the script that invokes the report. Use the query.filter and query.order parameters I've attached an example. In this example, I am asking which order the user prefers the report to be in. I use that variable as the query.order. Query.filter is based on a number of variables set earlier in the script.

    Code:
    repord = ui_get_radio("Select Report Print Order",1,"Vendor","Caseno","Name","Case Manager")
    if repord = ""
    		ui_msg_box(agency,"Action cancelled at user request")
    		end
    end if
    repname = "voucher listing"
    repmonth=ctod(datec)
    filter = "BETWEEN(VDATE,[VARD->REPMONTH],ADDMONTHS([VARD->REPMONTH],1)-1).and..not.isblank(\"Printed\")"
    query.filter = replace_parameters(FILTER,local_variables())
    if repord = "Case Manager"
    	repname = "voucher listing - CM"
    	query.order = ""
      else
      	query.order = REPORD
    end if

    :Report.Print(repname,query.filter,query.order)
    end
    hope this helps,

    Tom

      I'm having trouble with your xdialog setting a global variable but the order expression for your report, once it can reference the global variable, is

      Code:
      case(Var->gd_rep_seq = "Account id",Acc_id,Var->gd_rep_seq = "Account Name",Ac_nmef,.T.,E_mlf)
      There can be only one.

        Re: My Report needs a variable Order (Sequence)

        Hi Guys,

        Thanks for the quick response.

        Tom, was not aware of using the case outside of XBasic Wonderfully simple. Having said that, I can still get no satisfactory result from using your suggestion. Any ideas ?

        As you can see from the attached db, I added a new action to set the Variable name as a constant "Account Name" in case it didn't like the XDialog Box setting, but no success. The case appears to disregard the first 2 conditions completely !

        Looking forward
