Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Chapter 44. A Calendar Application

    Hi, All

    I followed and copied the Xbasic for Everyone, Chapter 44 - Calendar application.
    After "Step 3. Show the appointments on the calendar", I can not bring the appointments on my calendar. The program only shows the Calendar, no appointments.

    What did I miss on this chapter?

    You had a couple of small typos in the get_day_list function:

    Code:
    FUNCTION Get_day_list AS C (Day AS C, Owner AS C )

    dim tmp as c=""
    dim d1 as T =ctodt(day+" [COLOR="Red"]00:00:01[/COLOR]")
    dim d2 as T =ctodt(day+"[COLOR="Red"] 23:59:59[/COLOR]")

    	filter= "between(datetime,"+s_quote(d1)+ "," +s_quote(d2)+").and. owner="+s_quote(owner)
    	order="datetime"
    	tmp=table.external_record_content_get("cal2",\
    	    "'{b=white,blue}'+time(\"h:0m AM\",datetime)+' '+[COLOR="Red"]left[/COLOR](padr(description,30,' '),30)+'^'+id",\
    	      order,filter)
    	 Get_day_list=tmp

    END FUNCTION
    The space between the day and the time is required for a valid Time variable.

            As an alternative I thought I would mention this....

            US Flashmap makes a product called FlashCalendarPro.

            http://www.usflashmap.com/products/f...r/calendar.htm

            They have a free trial you can download.

            I have incorporated it into my desktop app. It uses a simple XML file for the data.

            Mauricio who frequents the web side of things has made this add on as a way to incorporate the FlashCalendarPro into your web apps with no coding. But, since you can use a web content supercontrol in your desktop apps.....you might be able to use his utility to incorporate it into your desktop apps. I don't know since I don't own his utility yet. I wrote my own routine to get my data out in the XML file structure needed for the Flash Calendar.

            Note - you cannot use a *.a5w page in the web content super control without running the Alpha Web Server. Since, nearly all computers have Flash on them, all you need is a basic html file inserted into a desktop form to run (no app server needed).

            Attached is a screen shot of one of my desktop apps running a flash calendar.

            The free trial that comes with FlashCalendarPro comes with a index.html that you can easily place on a deskop for if you want to see how it works inside Alpha......or just double click on the index.html file and your browser will open up and you can see how it works. It is quite slick actually.

            Regards,

            Jeff

              How?

              I do not know anything about Web nor HTML. Where do I start the HTML?

                Re: Chapter 44. A Calendar Application

                Good Morning John

                Attached is a very quick example I put together showing the concept. The table has no date fields...it is just a placeholder for the purposes of this example only. In the real world obviously you would need a table with date fields.

                The form shows the example data that is coming from the events xml file for FlashCalendarPro. This is the demo version of FlashCalendarPro so it will time out.

                I have hard coded everything here so you have to extract it to a specific spot to work.(C:\DesktopFlashCalDemo)

                You acutally don't need to know html or anything else. You just need to be able to create an xml file with your data. You can continue to use the supplied index.html page(it will time out but the registered version works exactly the same) - it just reads the xml file for it's data.

                Even though you are not doing a web page (the intent for Mauricio's utility I mentioned). His utility undoubtedly will create the events xml file you need if you don't feel comfortable extracting the data on your own.

                Regards,

                Jeff

                        Re: Chapter 44. A Calendar Application

                        Hi John,

                        Yes, that is the beauty of the flash calendar. Nothing else is needed. But, you just have to extract your data and save it to an events.xml file. You can find it in subdirectory under the main directory. Right click on it and choose edit and you can see it is a fairly simple text file.

                        I have a routine that generates the XML (for my needs -not necessary made for general do everything for everyone) that I will post. But, I do not want to do so unless Mauricio is ok with me doing so. Mauricio's no coding utility produces the needed xml file and allows for much more configuration with no coding than my UDF. I don't want to post my xml routine(s) unless Mauricio is ok with it since he has spent the time and effort to create a utility that interfaces with Flash Calendar Pro and my routine somewhat infringes on what he has done.

                        Regards,

                        Jeff

                              John,

                              Make sure you have my example extracted so the main ADB file is located at C:\DesktopFlashCalDemo and you should be able to see the sample when you open the form

                              As far as I know his utility is for the web side but it should not be difficult to adapt to the desktop side. The events.xml file is exactly the same doing either web or desktop. You might be able to use his util as is with just a minor tweak or two for the desktop side. Perhaps contact him and see what he has to say. Sorry I could not be more help with his utility.

                              Regards,
