Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    CPU and Memory Usage

I have installed a pilot app on a network as follows:
There are 7 client machines with RT installed (same version 2095-3264) that use the app + 1 machine (developer's machine) that holds the app and acts as the server with A5 full version. All 8 machines were purchased a few months ago and are identical in config (duo core with 2 gig of ram). So the users access the app that resides on the developer's machine (no shadow for the time being).
    1) With the app opened on each machine, I opened the Windows Task Manager on each of the 7 client machines and displayed the processes. The Mem usage on the machines varies: 1 machine showed a mem usage of 15,000k, another, 32,000, another 74,000, the rest around 14,000. How come the mem usage is not the same on all machines?
    2) The Performance tab showing the CPU usage for both CPUs, I ran a query to see the CPU usage for each CPU; A5 uses essential one of the CPU - I see a spike -, the other CPU stays nearly flat. I am wondering if A5V9 takes advantage of the duo core or not?

Could some please enlighten me on these 2 points.

    Re: CPU and Memory Usage

Answer to your question #2 is No - A5 does not utilize more than one processor.

As for varying memory usage? Not sure about that one.

Thanks Doug for pointing me to this article, lots of good info. I find the varying mem usage puzzling as the machines are identical and the install identical.

        Re: CPU and Memory Usage

Memory use is a funny rollercoaster. For example, I opened A5V9 and got the following weird mem usage:

Open A5 for first time since computer booted: 20,948
        Open a test DB : 42,336
        Browse a table : 44,752
        Close browse : 44,340

        Close A5

        Reopen A5: 68,012
Open same test DB : 71,120
Walk away and come back later : 9,896

Loading data into memory to optimize performance? Unloading when not in use to save resources? Maybe.

          Hi Rob:
Thanks for sharing. It's probably a standard behavior of A5.
