Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Terminal Server Issues

    Hello there,

I have created a small app with A5 v9 that our users are accessing via Terminal Server.

From my understanding, they all use the same runengine ? (I put the server in install mode before installing A5 Runengine.

The data base itself resides on a different server.

Here is is what happens when people want to acces the app, at first connection they are beeing asked for the licence number (we have the unlimited runengine)
    is that normal ?

We also have the report mailer module (wich I also have to install in each user session...)

Is there anything wrong in my setup ?

Also, I'm also having issues when just opening the runengine..(no menu shows up) other than with the administrator user.

I suspect permission issues somewhere, but I cant figure out where.

(I never had these issues with A5 V7 or v8).....

    Any ideas anyone ?

    Re: Terminal Server Issues

    The license is profile specific

You can create a shortcut icon that will automatically run the application. Click on Tools; create shortcut and place on desktop in documents and settings/all users/desktop.

      Re: Terminal Server Issues

I think most would put the database on the machine that's running terminal server. If I understand correctly you have workstation talking to terminal server on a different machine, and then terminal server talking to the database on yet another machine. This doubles the network traffic. There's the loop between each workstation and the terminal server. There's a second loop between terminal server and the database. What am I missing?

        Re: Terminal Server Issues

Tom, I prefer (and use your approach,) but some people say that T/S is supposed to be on a separate server from the app itself. Supposedly, that puts less work on the main server's processor.

I'm pretty sure when you get into clusters, it has to be done that way. Like when you put the first 15 users on sub_server 1, the 2nd 15 on sub_server 2, etc. and then it accesses the app on the main server.

This fellow needs to read the documentation regarding the text file containing the license number.

Interesting. Did not know that. Does not make much sense to me, but then what do I know? -- tom

            Re: Terminal Server Issues

Tom, I "think" it has to with T/S itself - managing more than 'N' sessions for the same app from a single machine - but with up to about 10 concurrent users, it works fine for us. Very responsive - like being there.
