Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: Subreports in report calculations

Here are a couple of ways to do it..

I change the Account Petty 2 so the subreport totaling is done in the footer and used the wizard to generate the total() and got the correct amounts for each check.

I also put a posting field rule on the petty cash->amount field to post to the petty head->check_amount for the proper check number.

To bring the existing data into synch, there is a posting operation that does the same thing.

and a Account Petty 3 report that uses the check amount from the table.

Hopefully, this will give you some ideas in the future.
I packed the database and reduced the size - you'll want to clean up the calculated fields in the report - like I did in 3

    Re: Subreports in report calculations

    Ok that failed.
If you open report called Account Petty 2. It is the start of what I need. The subreport shows the parent records check number and date. I just need to get the totals of those checks on there and I'm all set. I guess it would be also easier if I could have a field in the parent table that totals the child amounts, but I couldn't figure that one out either.
    Thank You

    Re: Subreports in report calculations

I didn't know about putting it in the detail section, maybe that is all I have to do to get it to work. If no luck I will zip it to show you and what I'm trying to do. Maybe it can't be done.

    Re: Subreports in report calculations

Subreports can be made to do lots of things that they weren't intended to do but I am never surprised when some attempts fail.

A sub-report is an entire report that is placed in the Detail area of another report (not the report footer). Its main purpose is to display data from tables linked in a set using one-to-many links at the same level.

    Re: Subreports in report calculations

Although I have gotten subreports to work at times in a detail header (not recommended!), I have never done so with a footer!

First are your subreports for the child tables with a One-to-Many linkage?? This is what generally subreports were designed for. And technically are to be placed in the Detail section of the report.

    Subreports in report calculations

I am creating a report on a set.
I added a subreport in the footer of the report. I can't seem to make a calculating field to add the child totals for each parent record. The same calulation works on the main report. I am using the genie to make the field because I am not good at writing expressions.
