Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Blank Page in Report

Please see attached. Only 1 form, 1 report. Click on report. The sequence of the pages is exactly how I need them, however I can't get rid of the blank page (last page). I tried everything I could think of to the point that my head is spinning and it's way past my bedtime. I redesigned the report twice, same result. Probably I achieved the desired result in an a quirky way that is causing the blank page. Much appreciated if some could tell me what's causing the blank page.
    Thanks

Gaby, because you've specified a useful subject / topic line for this message thread the board has automatically searched for "similar" threads on the same subject. Scroll down to look them over. You will find that a common cause for this is designing a report layout that cannot "fit" within the "printable zone" on your paper.

That was the first thing I looked for, areas where the report would overflow before posting. Tried hard but can't see where there is an overflow.
If I remove the page break in the report footer the blank page disappears but I do not get the desired result which is:
      - print the main report (Paymt with its child records from PaymntDetails) on the first page,
      - and print on the following pages the child records from the Documents table, each doc on a separate page.

Maybe you need to do two reports?

          Re: Blank Page in Report

          If I use 2 reports:
          1-Save report1 in directory_X
          2- Save report2 in directory_x
3-Append report2 to report1 to create combined report
4- attach combined report to email
          5- delete directory_X
6-Recreate directory_x (for next time another report is needed)

If only I could find a way to get rid of the last blank page it would be perfect.

            Re: Blank Page in Report

Gaby, I've never seen a page break used in a report footer. Doesn't that tell Alpha Five to break the footer and put part on the next page? You're getting a blank because there's nothiing in your report footer following the page break, right? Maybe its time to look for a different way to break previous pages in the report.

Gaby, I've had a chance to study your example.

the core issue is how to arrange a report using a set that has multiple one-to-many child tables? You're using sub-reports, but you've put one of them in the report footer. That particular subreport has it's own page break object. This is very unusual. Subreports are designed to be used in the details band, so I'm surprised they work at all in the report footer. The traditional approach to this is illustrated in the attached example. Hope this helps.

Tom: I have tried so many ways to try to get what I need: ie
                - print on the 1st page the report1 (Paymt-Paymtdetails) and
                - On the following pages child records from Documents table, each child record on a separate page

Yes, there is the Subreport based on Documents table right after the page break. That's why page2 displays the 1st child record from Documents table, page3 displays the 2nd child record from Documents table, followed by a blank page.

What happens if you move the page break and the second subreport into the group footer, instead of the report footer?

what happens if you leave the second subrport where it is, but remove the page break from it?

                      Re: Blank Page in Report

I've gone back to your original report and removed the pagebreak object from the second subreport. This eliminates the trailing blank page. This prints all the documents. This meets your specification. What it does not do is print each document on a separate sheet. Not previously mentioned as a requirement.
