Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Summarzie Won't Total same as Report

I have a table with multiple Records for a Person with a 19.9 decimal value. When I create a Report that does detail with a total and another that doesn't show the detail just the total for each person - the numbers match. I then Summarize the table by name and it rounds differently. I need to summarize so I can create a table with just one record per person in order to do a Word Merge. I have tried even doing the summarize, but only appending an empty table with name only and then posting from the detail table by Adding the values - same result. I have attached an picture of the problem - DB is too big to upload whole thing

We don't need the whole database, but a small table with a few records and a summarize operation that shows the problem.....

Al- sorry it has taken me so long to get this to you - took awhile to strip this down. Under the Scripts -do RUN, then pick 1st report for the Detail, 2nd one for Summary - All these are Calculated via the report and come out correct - then look at table Owners_unit_netintsum - field net_unit_int - this number should match what is on the report for Net Unit Int - and as you can see it doesn't. The summarize that creates this field is operation Owners_Netint_sumz (3rd from last operation on R_Unit_Assign) I know it goes thru a whole bunch of operations to get to this point, but there is reasons for it
      Thanks

I've not had good success running a string of operations from an action script. Each operation tends to run in their own thread and therefore can get out of synch.

I've usually converted them to functions and run the functions to preserve the single threading that is needed.

You may get the desired results by right clicking the action script in design mode and view xbasic - all actions tab - copy to clipboard.

Then paste into a xbasic script and run that script...

You'll probably get the correct calculations. Let us know..

Al - I have tried to run the summarize option stand alone and get the same result - even created a table with just records for 3 of the people I needed to summarize and still didn't work - so I don't think its the operation

Leah, break this down into smaller steps for us to follow along.

If I run the summarize operation named "Owners_netInt_sumz" it populates a table named "Unit_div_ord_summ". The totals there do not have a rounding error.

What am I doing differently than you?

Re: Summarzie Won't Total same as Report

thanks Tom - if you run the first two reports from the report list, you can see what the totals should be - and when you summarize its different - they all have to be the same - no matter what I do I can't get them to match - thanks for the help.

Re: Summarzie Won't Total same as Report

Leah, please be more specific. The first two reports listed on the reports tab of the control panel are Assign_Lease_ORRIF and Assign_LeaseU. Are these the reports that you want us to run?

When I run the summarize operation named "Owners_netInt_sumz" it populates a table named "Unit_div_ord_summ". The totals there do not have a rounding error. I've verified that by manually adding all the net_unit_int for Wilma and Clifford Jewett, and the manual total matches the total generated by the summarize operation, when run separately.

Wilma and Clifford Jewett don't appear in either of the "first two listed reports".

May I suggest that you retrace my steps, using the sample data set you gave us, instead of working with your original ?

Alternatively, may I suggest you retrace your own steps, using only the sample data set you gave us, instead of working with your original?
