Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    WCL_FTP Program

    Hi,

I am using a small ftp program called wcl_ftp - which is working great for me on smaller file sizes to upload / download.

    It will do the transaction,
    then close the connection
then automatically close the wcl_ftp program.

As soon as I up/download bigger files, say 5 - 9 MB, will it do the transaction, but will not close the connection or auto-close as I have set the command line values to do when finished. The wcl_ftp program just stays open...

I am using passive mode, and the server ftp timeout is 300 seconds which I have increased from 120 seconds (not sure if this has actually helped me.)

Is there anything else I can do to cater for longer transaction time or to fix this problem?

    Thanks
    Walter

    Walter,

You could use the ftp functions build in A5.

      Re: WCL_FTP Program

      Marcel,

I have tried the build-in ftp on a few occasions, but find it unreliable. Sometimes it would work good, other times not so nice.

If compared with the wcl_ftp, would rather use the wcl_program.

But in any event, I do have a problem, as the client will be uploading and downloading some rather big files daily.

      Regards
      Walter

Walter, I found this information link:

        http://forum.siteground.com/archive/...php/t-555.html

It could be the ISP that creates the problem.

Another option is to use yousendit.

Not sure if this will help, but if you are repeatably uploading/downloading your adb and/or data, I don't think there is any app that will compete with PCAnywhere. It has a feature called speed send that only transfers the changed files and only from the first changed point. I have been using it for about 10 years and it has never failed (other than for lost connections, etc.)

For example, I have an app that is a little over 500 MB. And I can transfer the whole folder in about 5 minutes.

            Re: WCL_FTP Program

            Hi Martin / Marcel,

Thanks for the replies and info.

My client is very particular about "ease of use", they click a button, select the file and it uploads - flag the record according to the upload success and email the share holders, all in one.
To introduce an external ftp app would be a bit difficult for them now.

Guess I will have to experiment some more then.

            Regards
            Walter

              Walter,

And what about using the native Windows ftp command?

Walter, it's curious to me that you would come here for help with someone else's program, or am I missing something ? Why not consult the author of the utility you're using ?

                  Re: WCL_FTP Program

                  Hello Tom,

                  You are probably right.
Since I am using alpha for such a long time, is the first thought to ask the alpha members. I "thought" there were more users using this 3rd party ftp app - hence - I picked up this utility from the very same board !!

I am just glad for all the guys trying to help - as usual!!

I will resort to the vendor - maybe they might be able to assist.
I will post the findings once I have worked through all the tips and pointers from Marcel.

                  Regards
                  Walter
