Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

  • How to add email confirmation

    I have the following script that sends an email via the A5 Internal Client using a Modal Dialog Box. It needs to be a Modal Dialog Box because we sometimes have to make changes to the default email template.

    Code:
    'Send an e- mail message using the Alpha Five e-mail clilent.
    if is_object(topparent.this) then
    	form_name = topparent.name()+".this"
    else
    	form_name = ""
    end if
    Dim message_type as c
    message_type = ""
    to_var  = a5_eval_expression("=Billto->Email",local_variables())
    param_to = to_var
    param_subject = "Test Email"
    param_cc = ""
    param_bcc = ""
    template_text = a5_get_saved_email("Mail_Billto1")
    dim em as p
    'A5_email_parser() parses out the different sections of the e-mail template
    em = a5_email_parser(template_text)
    'Evaluate any mailmerge commands that may exist in the template by calling the a5_mailmerge() function.
    param_message = em.message_body_temp
    param_message = a5_mailmerge(param_message,form_name)
    attachment_list = ""
    param_attachments = alltrim(attachment_list)
    'Send the e-mail using the Alpha Five e-mail client
    email_client(param_to,param_subject,param_message,param_attachments,param_cc,param_bcc,.t.,message_type)

    I need to fire another script only if the email is successfully sent.

    How can I add a confirmation result to the end of this script to test whether or not it was successfully sent.

    Thanks!

    Re: How to add email confirmation

    Code:
    'Send the e-mail using the Alpha Five e-mail client
    [COLOR="Red"]result = [/COLOR]email_client(param_to,param_subject,param_message,param_attachments,param_cc,param_bcc,.t.,message_type)
    ui_message_box("Note","Action taken was "+result)
    In the case of a modal dialog box, if the user closes the email client by pressing the Send button, then Result is set to "send". If the user presses the Cancel button, Result is set to "Cancel". Otherwise, Result is set to a NULL value.
    If by successfully sent you mean that no connection error prevented the email from being sent, I don't think Alpha can trap that.
    There can be only one.

      I can do it this way but it doesn't open a dialog box and allow the users to make any changes from the template...

      Code:
      'Send an e- mail message using the Alpha Five e-mail clilent.
      if is_object(topparent.this) then
      	form_name = topparent.name()+".this"
      else
      	form_name = ""
      end if
      Dim message_type as c
      message_type = ""
      to_var  = a5_eval_expression("=Billto->Email",local_variables())
      param_to = to_var
      param_subject = "Test Email"
      param_cc = ""
      param_bcc = ""
      template_text = a5_get_saved_email("Mail_Billto1")
      dim em as p
      'A5_email_parser() parses out the different sections of the e-mail template
      em = a5_email_parser(template_text)
      'Evaluate any mailmerge commands that may exist in the template by calling the a5_mailmerge() function.
      param_message = em.message_body_temp
      param_message = a5_mailmerge(param_message,form_name)
      attachment_list = ""
      param_attachments = alltrim(attachment_list)
      'Send the e-mail message directly - do not open the Alpha Five e-mail client
      send_result = email_send(param_to,param_subject,param_message,param_attachments,param_cc,param_bcc,.t.,message_type)
      [COLOR="Red"]if send_result = 1 then
      	ui_msg_box("Notice","E-mail message sent.",UI_INFORMATION_SYMBOL)
      else
      	ui_msg_box("Error","E-mail message was not sent.",UI_STOP_SYMBOL)
      end if[/COLOR]
