Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Selecting active records only.

Hi, please help with a filter problem. My app has a form with browse similar to the customer page of Alhpa Sports. I mark the customers as inactive using a logic T or F. I want to keep the inactive customers in the table but only display the active ones on my form. Display all button will be good later. I used action scripting to run a saved operation but it just opens a browse with active customers only which is behind the form which displays all customers. I just want the form with active customers. Please help. I am not very good with scripting yet. "Idiots guide please"

    Thanks
    Richard

    Re: Selecting active records only.

You need a custom query and a specific filter expression.
    There can be only one.

Hi Stan, thanks very much. I can't believe that was so simple. Now I can't find a way to clear the filter with a button on the form.
I tried <Formname>.Queryclear() without success. Not sure if I used it correctly either.
Which is the best help source for these type of things? Remember that I am a part time wannabe programmer? I'd like to read up why I had to use a custom query rather than a saved query.

There is an action under Query to Show All Records.

The result of a saved query is to display the result in a browse.
        There can be only one.

The first thing I tried was to put a button on the form, right clicked the button, events and then use "OnPush" and "Query, show all records" via action scripting and it did nothing that I could see.

What did you expect to see? The show all button releases the query so that you can navigate to other records. Since you are viewing a record and you can only view one record at a time on a form, nothing on screen changes.
            There can be only one.

              Re: Selecting active records only.

I marked clients 1 to 107 as deleted = F. When the form opens only records from 108 onwards are displayed in the search browse, like the one in Alpha sports customer page. When I run show all records, I can't see the records that are marked as deleted.IE 1 to 107. Does it not have something to do with the message on the bottom of the action scripting page which says excluding form specific filters or something like that.

I cant' see the records marked as deleted even if I search by number for them. They are still in the table though.

Yes, it does. If you have a filter built into the form you should get rid of it. The filtering for active only should be done with your button running the custom query. Releasing that custom query should show all records.

                    Re: Selecting active records only.

Stan, once again many thanks. My problem was I was performing the query at a specific level. I changed to 'Cross Level' and was then able to clear the query via the action script 'Show all records'. If you use the top menu 'Form - Events - OnPush' to run the custom query, the Show all icon on the top toolbar is greyed out. If you run the custom query from a button on the form the icon is active. Adding the custom query from the Form - events menu or via a button on the form works and as long as, in my case IE multiple set levels, you use "cross level". You will then be able to clear the query with the action script 'Show all" added to the form via a button.
                    Thanks
                    Richard
