Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

  • Mail report and fetch to next record using a filter

    I would like to use a button on a form and execute a script to create personalized reports. Each report is saved in a corresponding client directory. I 'm using a filter to select the needed records and would like to send each report to the customer by mail.

    I'm not able to get it working. The script creates a report for the first record and mails the report to the customer. However the same report for the same customer and record is created and mailed over and over again. It doesn't fetch to the next record. What is missing in the script?

    Code:
    topparent.commit()

    tbl = table.current()
    tbl.fetch_first()
    while .not. tbl.fetch_eof()

    if isblank("adm_bezwaar->Bz_Uitsprk") then

    subject = alltrim(memo_bz->bz_C_OW_1)
    orgaan = alltrim(adm_bezwaar->Bz_client)
    number = alltrim(tbl.adm_nr)
    client = alltrim(tbl.clientname)
    base_path = "G:\clienten\\"
    dir_name = number+" "+client
    dir_create_recurse(base_path+dir_name)

    record_number = current_record_number()
    query.filter = "recno() = " + record_number

    report.saveas("bezwaarschrift", "PDF", query.filter, "",base_path+dir_name+"\\"+"brief"+SPACE(1) +orgaan+ SPACE(1) +subject+".pdf")

    I don't know. I would alway dim the pointer variable: dim tbl as p and the 'else' at the end is not necessary.

      Re: Mail report and fetch to next record using a filter

      You are using the pointer that the form uses. Open the table separately and don't conflict with the forms' view of the table.

      ie change

      tbl=table.current()
      to:
      tbl-table.open("<yourtable>")

      and add a tbl.close() after the end while

        Re: Mail report and fetch to next record using a filter

        The script doesn't create a report and doesn't send mail when tbl = table.current() is changed to tbl = table.open("adm_bezwaar"). So I removed the tbl.close() at the end of the script!?

        By removing the part of the script that sends the email, the filter works fine and the specified reports are created (only the first report is created twice (overwritten)). By removing the script that creates the report, the filter works fine and the specified emails are created and send (only the first email is send twice). For some reason the filter doesn't work on both actions combined together in one script.

        Mike, Thanks for your comments. I read about the dim command in the help manual but I still don't understand what it's for. What could happen if you don't dim a pointer variable?

        Code:
        'script without email
        topparent.commit()

        dim tbl as P
        'tbl = table.open("adm")

          Re: Mail report and fetch to next record using a filter

          I tested the script without the fetch commands and this works great. Meaning the report is created and mailed if the current record meets the filter criteria. There are no longer double created reports and emails. I will experiment to make the script work with the fetch function.

            Hallo Werder,

            The way I read what you want to do is that you want to cycle through a table and produce a result whenever the IF isblank-condition is met?

            I would suggest to create a separate test-script and just use the report.saveas. Further take out the query filter and see what happens.

            BTW is looks like you are working on a "Roladministratie"?

              Re: Mail report and fetch to next record using a filter

              There is probably something wrong with my alpha five version 9 installation. The same script run's without problems on a fresh installed alpha five version 10 (trial). I posted a sample database. Maybe somebody wants to run the script and see if it runs without problems. In total five reports and five emails must be generated.

              Yes Jo, it's for my small law firm. Groeten ....

                Werder,

                I installed the sample, had to set up the e-mail client and did a test under V10.
                It looks as if it works fine, once I created the base folder the other folders and content were created automatically in the script.
                The only thing is that I couldn't determine if the correct report (content)was created as they all contain "Test report".
                5 mails have been sent and returned due to incorrect mail address.

                I noticed that for each message a confirmation appeared on screen.
