Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    image_filename_encode help on network

    I have created a scanning utility that can store images/pdfs etc. for a patient, and it seems to work great... BUT, when I go to a network pc I don't see the image. So I used a couple functions:
    -image_filename_encode
    -filename_decode
    that works great only if I add the Aliases in the settings of each runtime on the network. It is not really feasible for me to change every one of my clients Aliases manually, so is there a function or something that I can add to perform this action? If not, are there other alternatives? Thanks in advance,

    Don

    What errors are you getting that you don't see the images? What code are you using to retrieve the images?

      Re: image_filename_encode help on network

      Hi Tom,
      On the form I have an image field that shows the image scanned or imported. On the computer which I scan or import... the image shows correctly. On the other computers they do not show at all. No errors and no code is used to retrieve the images in this scenario... they just don't show because the Alias/path is not picked up. As I understand it, the Alias must be set in the settings of the runtime. If I set the Alias manually on the runtimes then the image does show correctly on all the computers for which I set the Alias. Thanks for taking a look.

        It looks like you're on the right track with aliases. I believe you re right in that you will have to adjust the alias on each runtime machine. We have all our data on servers, all of our workstations map drives the same way, so we don't run into that issue.

          I decided to ditch the Aliases method, not that I think it couldn't be done, but more because I like the other solution I came up with:

          '=====The below code will help write file to a "relative" address so it can be seen anywhere on network

          'imagename = the name of the file you want to save to table in image_file_reference field

          DIM updatapath as C
          IF a5.Get_Master_Path() = ""
          updatapath = a5.Get_Path()+chr(92)
          ELSE
          updatapath = a5.Get_Master_Path()+chr(92)
          END IF
          '...
          '...
          'create xdialog etc. and do other stuff
          '...
          '...
          Twain.object.SaveToFile(updatapath+"scans"+chr(92)+imagename)

          dim vScan_addr as c = updatapath+"scans"+chr(92)+imagename
          vScan_addr=filename_relative(vScan_addr, updatapath)

          '=====The below code checks if the file exists then performs an action -ie. open dialog of image/file.
          FUNCTION scan_check AS C ( )
          DIM SHARED vScan_addr AS c
          dim tbl as p
          tbl = table.get("scans")
          vScan_addr = tbl.Scan_Image

          DIM shared updatapath as C
          IF a5.Get_Master_Path() = ""
          updatapath = a5.Get_Path()+chr(92)
          ELSE
          updatapath = a5.Get_Master_Path()+chr(92)
          END IF
          vScan_addr=filename_relative(vScan_addr, updatapath)
          vScan_addr= updatapath+vScan_addr

          if file.exists(vScan_addr) then
          script_play("open_image_viewer")
          else
          script_play("No_scan_image_found")
          script_play("add_edit_image_location")
          end if
          END FUNCTION
