Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Failed to save document

The system is A5V9 running on a windows 2003 server with a multiuser lan application. The workstations run the runtime, and the server also runs the web application server as a service using alwaysup. I remotely log into the server and open A5V9 directly. Yesterday I suddenly got a Failed to save document message when I opened the database on the server. If I continued the database did open normally. Other databases and backup copies of the problem database did not show that error. Dr. Peter Wayne in an older post suggested that the files *.rmuf and *.muf were the problem and could be deleted. So I shut down A5V9 and backed up the database. Then I tried to erase the two files. One could be deleted but windows would not allow deletion of the other file. And when I opened the data base again, the error returned and the file I deleted was indeed recreated. Windows refused to delete the file with the message that it was in use although A5V9 was shut down. I thought about rebooting the server but did not want to disturb other users. So I made a new folder and copied everything from the old folder to the new folder except the 2 files in question. I renamed the old folder and renamed the new folder with the name of the old folder. That seemed to fix the problem.
    Hope this help someone else.
    Regards
    Irwin

    Re: Failed to save document

Let me guess. You were able to delete *.muf but not *.rmuf. R is for runtime and some workstation was logged on?

I have had the message before. It was after a botch at starting a5 from an outside source.

I just relooked up the app from runtime alpha.exe and all became normal.

Yes your are right, it was the *.rmuf that I could not erase. And later, I did get a report that some workstation was hung and had to be rebooted but I had already done my fix so I do not know if the reboot had any effect. What do you mean by "relooked up the app"?

open v9, v10 or runtime by way of alpha5.exe and from file, open the adb in question. ( looked it up)
