Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Filters Keep Disappearing a while ?

    Hello all

    I have discovered a strange issue

    i am developing a Auction System Desktop for live auctions.

    the issue is in the form properties filters

    i have 3 tables

    auctions
    bidders
    items

    auction
    filter "none"
    order expression auction_id

    bidders
    filter Auction__id = Var->vAuction
    order Bidder_id

    items
    filter Auction__id = Var->vAuction
    order Lot_number

    for some reason after running the application various number of times the filters simply just disappear e.g.

    last run

    auction
    filter "none"
    order expression auction_id

    bidders
    filter "MISSING FILTER HERE"
    order Bidder_id

    items
    filter Auction__id = Var->vAuction
    order Lot_number

    any ideas?

    thanks in advance

    Re: Filters Keep Disappearing a while ?

    Separate forms for each table?

    Single form based on a set of tables? If so, describe the linkages.

    Are routines in place to assure that the variable (vAuction) has been initialized and populated BEFORE the form(s) are opened?

    Are routines being run that would reset the base level queries in the form(s)?

    Trevor, in many apps the kinds of relationships you're describing here would be displayed without using a variable or a filter. One would simply create a set, with the auctions table as parent. Bidders and Items would be linked (separately) to Auctions via the auction_id field. A form based on this set would automatically "filter" bidders and items showing only those that are linked to the parent table. No filters need to inserted into the properties of such a form to accomplish this.

      Re: Filters Keep Disappearing a while ?

      I am interested if a solution/reason can be found for this as well....I had posed a similar question in v5 quite a while ago without resolution...the filter would, over time/use, either just disappear or the word "Table" would be inserted in place of it (which would cause an error as well).

      I have had no issues since that time as rarely use form filters now since learning that they are basequeries and I like more flexibility.

        Yes, and that reason is not because there is a ghost somewhere but rather because in a case like this, those filters represent a query and there is a limit of 16 slots for queries (I think it's 16), once exhausted you are out of luck. That's why I keep saying over and over not to have such filters in a form, but rather run a script to run a query using these filters, then detach/clear/drop the query at the end of the script to clear the slot.

        With that said and if my explanation holds water, then I wouldn't exclude the idea that this is a bug as alpha should clear those slots each time. But once again, I don't see the point of having a fixed filter/order in a form when you could do that dynamically.
