Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    windows7 ulitmate 64bit-operations not working

I just upgraded from Vista 64 bit to Windows 7 Ulitmate 64 bit. All of my copy operations and crosstab operations stopped working. I tried making a new copy operation and it does not work either. I have attached 2 screen shots of the "problem signature". I downloaded version 10 and it has the same problem. We have upgraded 2 PC's at work to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and they both have this same problem. Any suggestions?

Just wanted to bump this up since we are in serious need of help. This has hosed up our whole system.

I would uninstall Alpha, delete the Alpha Folder, and even possibly remove registry files associated with Alpha. Obviously, back up anything you need to save. Then re-install. Using Alpha in Windows 7 should not be an issue.

      Don

******** ooops... actually, using Alpha in Windows 7 does have some issues. I am guessing the issue you have should be corrected by re-installing. I have run into issues ie. trying to do a find & replace gives an error message with some code.

Dang... my first thought was if there were any antivirus/security programs running OR if you had User Account Control Settings to high when you installed Alpha. I have the same configuration on another computer so I can try to duplicate your problem. Are you are trying to Copy records from one table to another?

Keep hoping Selwyn or someone else will chime in on this. Major major problems. The native ALpha 5 copy function won't even work without bombing. Can someone please help? V10 does not work either on 2 different Win7 64 bit machines and Alpha v9 won't even install on one pc that has Win 7 home 64 bit.

Just as a side note...this very same application using the same data from the same Windows 7 home edition 64 bit computer as a data server runs fine on my old laptop running XP SP3 32 bit. It also ran fine on Vista 64 bit but things went awry when we upgraded to Win 7 64 bit.

OK, I have now installed a trial version of V10 on my data pc and my desktop. My reports will run on the data server pc but not on my desktop. I have the data in the public directory and have full access to everyone. Firewall is turned off for testing purposes. Anyone have a clue what I am missing?

Re: windows7 ulitmate 64bit-operations not working

OK you gurus...I have narrowed the problem down to the 64bit Windows 7. I was under the false impression that since I bought my system as an x64 system it would have the 64 bit Windows but it is not. Alpha 9 will not install on it but V10 did and works fine but will not work on my 2 Win7 64 bit machines. V9 worked fine in Vista 64 bit but not in Win 7 64 bit. Compatability mode does not work. Says it is an imcompatible application. I really need a solution Mr. Rabin!!!

Re: windows7 ulitmate 64bit-operations not working

I may be simply stating the obvious, but I had a similar problem with a different application. It was a 32bit app that really could not function on a 64bit machine. Have you downloaded and installed the XP Mode (virtual pc) on your machine? If you have I know you can v9 in it. However, you may be looking for an entirely different solution. In my case I was able to use the XP mode (32bit) for development and run the app on the 64bit system.
                    Regards,

                    John W.

Was not aware there was anything to download other than tell it to run XP compatabiltiy. I will google the Virtual PC and see if that helps.

Keep an eye on this as we'll going to use Win7 64-bit a lot. Still deciding....

can someone create an app that will duplicate the problem you are having? I am and have been usin win 7 ultimate 64 bit since it was released and am not seeing any problem. I am using V10, but do have v9 installed as well. If you can supply me your copy/crosstab problem, i will run it on my system and confirm if it is a problem for me

I just now finished getting the XPMode virtual machine set up and it is working but dang that is cumberson to have to do that. We cannot get the native alpha5 copy or crosstab commands to work on our 64 bit machines. I will see if I can segregate the ops we are trying to perform and post them here.

There really should not be any need to jump thru hoops to get this to work. (At least for the V10.5)
I am not running Alpha in compatability mode or in xp mode.
