Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

I also charge a premium anually/monthly. It does not include changed printed forms/reports beyond 30 days. Original sale includes any and all forms the user currently has. many are already made and I just have to copy them from anoter adb/set/table. Premium takes care of updates and 1/2 price on an UPGRADE. version 10 will be an upgrade to current users if they want it.

I am not sure about it but in v10, I think it is automatically a plus. In v9 I think plus was extra.

I never used the + part to let a user make a report or anything yet. The best I allow is a user to make a template for email. Actually he can put his words in and save it as a template for later use. Coded is my problem.
They are in business to sell/lease cars. I do programming so they can push the buttons.
The savy ones are the ones that mess it up most for me.

Point is, make the changes on your end and download it to them. You could send the support files for the table/set with the new report included. I woul make sure I had 3 blank forms and one printed before I started to attemp the changes.

    Definitely on the SAME page!
Some users are savey others have no clue and don't want to.
Some want the Lienholder printed....others not... where optional.
    RE:
    2 I keep a copy of all apps for a particular user/company.

In my current OLD 16bit applic. I do have ONE separate folder for Data tbls + Reports + Custom Menus for EACH Client.
Then another folder for the Code/Scripts/Functions.
Then another folder for the Software platform.

    RE:
1 I will not allow a user to red a report, but you can with runtime+.

99% of the time I do the changes unless I'm not near a Computer and user needs immediate change.

    RE:
3 I correct the report and charge for that. It is not my fault their report changed.

I have an annual Support Premium. Heavy calls = higher Premium Next Year.

So, I have to replace the Runtime, right? No Design mode - anything with runtime.
    I don't understand a "with runtime+."

4 I came from VB and we used crystal reports to an exe file, then printed the exe file. a user may have 50 of these and they were simply replaced when they needed a new one. Oh, they still had the old one too.
[ the naming convention was like flsodometerver3269.exe.(florida sold odometer version 3269]

5 you can give them the support files with the new report in it for the dbf or set.

6 I always require 6 of the fill in forms(no photocopies) for a new form or 3 for a redo with minor changes.

7 reports are done from one set for those kind. It is easier on me and them.

8 pricing is: simple = 30, harder is 50-100, hard is 125-200 like a bank lease contract.

    Hope that helped.

    Runtime With Rpt Design Allowed

    Within the Runtime application:
Can one program a script so that when the User chooses to PRINT/PREVIEW a report, they can ALSO go into DESIGN mode for THAT report to make adjustments?
The reason I'm asking is that the "Report" is actually printing on a Predesigned Form where we just print the fields in the correct locations....similar to the idea of a Company Check.
Ok, Sometimes the Printer they use or the rev Date of the Form creates a minor mislocation of the one or more fields A5 Prints.
So, it would be great if I or They can adjust the field location "on-the-fly" so to speak, and save it.
Then I can avoid recreating a whole re-sending of the Runtime just because a Rpt needed minor adjustments.
Or, can the Reports be left external to the Runtime?
    I hope this makes sense.
Working...
