Hi all,

I have recently come back to developing for Alpha Five. I have version 9 at this stage as thats what I have had before.

Anyway, I have been tasked with creating a database that can track payments for a sports club.

Currently they have resorted to Excel Spreadsheets and that is really painful as it is where they have multiple payment options for individuals and where they have family plans...which means that certain individuals may not have to pay as they are on a family plan. (I will explain this later).

Anyway after meeting up with the guy and fleshing out what his requirements are this is what he is looking for:

Currently they would like to track payments from their members (kids) in the club and also what type of activities they are involved in based on the age of the member.

ie.

Members can either be signed up as:
family $65 (and this can accomodate for any kids within that family)
individuals $30
newsletter only $10

Also based on the kids (members) age they are sorted up into another further category:

Tiny Ball 5-7
Mini ball 7-8
Intermediate 9-12

So at this stage, I have created the basics. A members contact table and a payment table. In the members table it will contain all the relevant information about the individual. First name/Last Name/DOB. I have created a payment table and created a link with a members id. I am thinking that if I have it this way it will allow multiple payments for certain people.

In the members table I was thinking of adding another category...Family Head. Basically what this means is that this is the person that is paying the family membership. Subsequent family members will be under the family field and they do not have to pay anything. (I would like to track which family they are part of).

I am having a bit of trouble understanding if this is going to work properly. For example how will I put a Family member under a Family head and associate it with the person paying for the family subscription? I am also wondering if by using the method I could do what was being asked for.

It looks good on paper, but again I have a hard time seeing how it is going to work.

I have attached the database of the existing tables that I have in mind and was looking for constructive criticism. Any help or tips I will appreciate it very very much. I really would like to get back into developing for Alpha Five and going through this exercise its going to help get it.

TIA,
