Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Populate Combo Box With Expressions Result

I want to populate a combo box with the results of an expression. The expression is based on the use of an activex http://www.activesoundrecorder.com/

    :Settings_Audio:record.activex.GetInputDeviceDesc(0)

On my systems this expression returns the name of my sound card which is:
    "SoundMax Digital Audio"

If I had a 2nd sound card in my system, the following expression will show its name :Settings_Audio:record.activex.GetInputDeviceDesc(1)

I would like to be able to have just a single combo box show all installed sound cards. I figure I would need to list a few possibilities like:
    :Settings_Audio:record.activex.GetInputDeviceDesc(0)
    :Settings_Audio:record.activex.GetInputDeviceDesc(1)
    :Settings_Audio:record.activex.GetInputDeviceDesc(2)
    :Settings_Audio:record.activex.GetInputDeviceDesc(3)
    :Settings_Audio:record.activex.GetInputDeviceDesc(4)
    :Settings_Audio:record.activex.GetInputDeviceDesc(5)

I dont think any system would have that many sound cards installed at any one time, so ability to show 6 should be enough.

The thing is; How do get the combo box to show the results of the expressions. Nothing that i've tried has work. the best I got so far is, when I drop down the list the 6 expressions show, but as expressions, not as soundcards.

On my systems this expression returns the name of my sound card which is
returns where/how? Do you see that in the Object Explorer on a form? If you put a calculated field on the form with that expression does it display the card name?
    There can be only one.

I can put it in a dialogue box and when that dialogue shows that sound card name will.
If I place it under a button to set the sound card name in a feild it will.

The attached picture shows both these example in progress. one but sets the card name in the feild and the other shows a dialogue.

the problem is when i try to get the cards name into the combobox, theis is literally what i see in the drop down
      :Settings_Audio:record.activex.GetInputDeviceDesc(0)
      :Settings_Audio:record.activex.GetInputDeviceDesc(1)
      :Settings_Audio:record.activex.GetInputDeviceDesc(2)
      :Settings_Audio:record.activex.GetInputDeviceDesc(3)
      :Settings_Audio:record.activex.GetInputDeviceDesc(4)
      :Settings_Audio:record.activex.GetInputDeviceDesc(5)

It shows the expressions instead of processing them.

You are making the choices Computed Automatically, Expression that returns a crlf() list, with the expression

        Code:
        :Settings_Audio:record.activex.GetInputDeviceDesc(0)+crlf()+:Settings_Audio:record.activex.GetInputDeviceDesc(1)+crlf()+:Settings_Audio:record.activex.GetInputDeviceDesc(2)+crlf()+:Settings_Audio:record.activex.GetInputDeviceDesc(3)+crlf()+:Settings_Audio:record.activex.GetInputDeviceDesc(4)+crlf()+:Settings_Audio:record.activex.GetInputDeviceDesc(5)
        There can be only one.

maybe if you could create the codes to list a dropdown based on any A5 xbasic expression. I know how to populate the dropdown with feilds and tables and scripts etc. but a working example based on any xbasic should be good. I know you cant actually test the codes I gave here because u more than likely didnt download the ocx, so just please create one based on anything you have at ur disposal and I should be able to apply to may scenario.
Thanks for the efforts so far.
