I am new to Active Link tables. I have made one posting regarding a similar topic and I have had no responses. I have been working with desktop applications and Alpha since A4v1.1A (weren't those audio tapes fantastic!) but I have only used dbf tables.
I have setup an ODBC data source and created an AlphaDAO connection. I can attach Active Link tables from my SQL data source with no problems.
Now for my question ... Like other long time Alpha users I am used to creating indexes on tables and using Find by Key to look up information. How do I accomplish the same functionality with Active Link tables? A5 doesn't allow me to create indexes on the SQL tables.
I feel that I am missing something very important. On almost a daily basis I receive an email from Alpha Software touting the benefits of developing desktop applications with an SQL back-end. I even notice that they have a separate tool that you can buy that will "upgrade" your existing dbf based application to a an SQL based desktop application.
I have searched this message board and I have found several postings on Active Link tables. The majority of the posting either have not been responded to or there have been one response and that response has not provided me with much help.
I've also paid attention to the various class offerings that Alpha Software is advertising. Including the online, written and Alpha University I have yet to see a class that seemed (note the word seemed) to focus on the development of desktop applications using an SQL back-end. Is there a class that I am missing.
Sorry in advance for my rambling. I thank any one in advance for any help they can give me.
