Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Table with Form with Control Type = URL blocked.

    Hi all.
Anyone had this problem and solved it?
I have an app in development which has a table with fields "Project ID" and "WebLink" (char 100).

    The form shows a Browse with the details of the WebLinks and the field cpntaining the link is set up;

    Object Name = Web
    Field = Web-> Web
    Control Type = URL

On the dev PC it works fine.

When zipped and loaded into the correct directory on the client machine, the table does not appear in the Control Panel although it is present in the root folder. All of the other changes display and work as intended.

The message "Form not Found" - which is logical - appears when the menu button to open it is selected. You cannot open it from the folder using Alpha directly either.

What I need to be able to do is to save useful links in a table, so I tried changing the Table Name and Form Name but the darn things still won't display in the Control Panel. Even unzipped as an empty table it still doesn't work

I'm running RT on the client site, latest version, as is the development version.

They are running a pretty locked down system as it's government, so are there likely to be restricted keywords like "WEB"?

Any ideas? If it's impossible I'll give up and head off down the pub.

Placing a table in the database directory does not add it to the database.

If you have allowed access to the email reader under the Tools menu you can email them the script to run remotely.

    file_add_to_db("drive_path_tablename.dbf")

If all you have changed is the addition of the one table you can send them the database definition files. This will overwrite theirs so make sure you know what you're doing.

    .ADB
Contains the filenames of all tables and sets that are members of the database and the names of all libraries that have been attached to the database.

    .ALB
The data dictionary for an .ADB file. Contains settings, pointers to all scripts, user defined functions, menus, toolbars, bitmaps, and import definitions that have been defined for the database.
Storing Scripts in a Library, Attaching a Library to the Current Database

    .ASI
This file stores web application variables.

    .ALM
Stores all scripts, user defined functions, menus, toolbars, bitmaps, and import definitions used by more than one table.

    .ALX
Alpha Five uses the .ALX file to find a specific script, function, operation, setting, etc. that is stored in the data dictionary.

    .ASX
A temporary file containing the indexing information generated by a query against a set. These files may be deleted.

Stan, I hear what you are saying, and understand that the table needs to be present in the database.

The app running on the dev machine has the Web Table and Form in the database, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to test it.

What is confusing me is that the other changes which are in the same database have transferred successfully.

Using 'Zip' from the Control Panel picks up all of the tables I would have expected it to. Unzipping puts them into the folder I target, but the Table and Form can't be found on the Gvmt PC.

I guess I'll try renaming the Fields next to see if that will enable me to load the Web links field. I know that I can embed a link in a company e-mal, but there are restrictions as to the type of link you can actually get to so there seems to be some form of auditor in place.

If I resolve it, I'll post the results.
