Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    conditional object needs refreshing

i put a conditional object on a form, showing objects based upon the value of a variable.

i created this in v10 but some users are still using v9.

the conditional objects wont show the correct objects when the value of the variable changes in v9, but ok in v10.

i have had to put a 'refresh form' script to force the conditional object to work.

i have tried to re create the con object in v9, but it still wont work correctly.

anybody know why this is, i'd like to remove the refresh form scripts as its a bit slow changing the conditional object.

    thanks

    Re: conditional object needs refreshing

Not sure if this will work but you might try displaying a calculated field on the form instead. Those are pretty reliable about "refreshing" by themselves.

You could start by trying to just make a calculated field from the variable:
    MyCalcFld = var->MyVariable

If that doesn't work, see if you can create a calc field using an expression that returns the same value as the variable.

Hmmm, is the variable Global? Or at least Shared? Based on what you've said so far, it sounds like it is. If not, that my be your problem.

thanks, ill try the calc field.

i initially the variable was layout, which worked fine in v10. i then tried both session and global.

      later ---------

tried adding a calc field based upon the variable. it doesnt work as required.

        Re: conditional object needs refreshing

"Based upon the value of a variable"... does that mean something simple like var = A or var = B, where some other action makes that change on the form? Or are you doing something more complex that might not be setting the value as you think it should? How many conditions are involved? And is it possible you are not reaching the conditional value you think should be met? Its a bit like writing a CASE statement, whereby some more obvious values not to met should be considered first and eliminated.

But now I am only guessing.

thats correct, i have button whch set the value of the variable.

i made the variable visible, changed the value with one of the buttons, then i clicked in to the var field and tabbed away, as soon as i tabbed away the conditional object worked.

            Re: conditional object needs refreshing

I am doing something similar in a form using a conditional object instead of a tabbed object. I created my variable for the form as shared (session) and gave it a default value for the page I want to show when the form opens. My buttons then change that var and refresh the conditional object to show the related page. In each button I also dim the variable again as shared before changing its value.

thanks, ill give this a try, worked perfect in v10, wouldnt have thought there was any real difference to make this happen.

                Re: conditional object needs refreshing

Well I went from v8 to v10 with this. Perhaps the glitch is in v9. You could hide the var on the form as an object and try refreshing that...since you said it did refresh the conditional object when you clicked it.
