Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

This recent thread indicates it could be a field rule problem.

Re: Create New Record Bug ?

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for the responses, I was wondering why no one was responding to my thread because I had not gotten email saying someone had done so, then I realized it was all going to the spam folder.. That being said here are the issues I am now having:

So this database is used for textbooks.

I have a set based of Fall 2011 Textbooks, linked to this set are 9 other tables that all belong to numerous different sets as well.

I have a browse that is based off of this set, within this browse I have a couple of columns that pull from other tables (2-3 Columns) and the rest are from the Parent table Fall 2011 textbooks. I am coming across an issue when I try to enter a new record in this set-based browse. If I enter a new record it will lockup and give me a couple of different errors, 1-sometimes it says index may have become corrupted please update ( I have updated numerous times no help) 2-just recently it has been locking and giving me a heap failure 3-It will hour glass, then eventually say enter must begin first and no matter what you do this will keep popping up. Each time error occurs I must alt+ctrl+del to close the program.

If I create a new record in the Default Table / Browse Fall 11 Textbooks then the error does not occur. I have removed all columns of the non-parent table from the Browse and the error still occurs. I am now going to remove a Table from the set one by one until I get the error to stop and then try to fix whatever was causing it.

Any new suggestions you have with this updated information would be appreciated, I will update my settings so I actually get an email :)

    Thanks - Chris

Sorry Mike, that is indeed what I meant. Default form.
    I'll try and remember.

1-Are any of these 10 tables linked to any other tables (other than these 10) in other set(s)? Or
2-are any of these 10 tables linked to each other in other set(s)?
3-Do any of these tables have any memo field? RTF? Images?

    Ted,

Seeing as terminology can ultimately cause confusion I need to ask this.
By "Native Set Form", do you mean the Default form for a set? I am assuming so but have never heard of "Native".

I have just had a "funny" with a previously working form.
It might be related to Chris' problem.
The Set in Native Form mode shows the three levels of data. All correct.

The Form shows 2 levels and the third is empty.

    Header
    Detail 1
    Detail 2
    Detail 3 (Empty)

The only way around was to use the Native Set Form and save it with the original Form borders and buttons.

I tried all the usual set resave and form resave but it didn't work.

This was as a result of zapping the tables of test data (I took a backup) in prep for a deployment.

You might need to test the browse additions to the set by increments. If you get to the one that blows up, have a cup of tea and rejoice. Then fix it.

Hi, Chris. Please clarify some things for us.

Sets have parent tables (and child or grandchild tables). There is no such thing as a parent set. Do you mean to say that your parent table is linked to 9 other tables using one to one links?

Have you included fields from all 10 tables on each row of your browse?

Is this a browse layout, or a browse that's been placed in a form?

    Thanks.

    Create New Record Bug ?

    Hello,

I have a browse based off of a parent set, the set is linked to 9 other tables all one to one.

I am randomly having an issue working in the browse on the parent table of creating a new record no longer functioning. If I closed the browse and reopen it, it begins working properly again. But every 15 minutes or so all of a sudden I can no longer add a new record. I typically use Ctrl+Enter but the actual buttons on top also will not function when this happens. I cannot identify exactly what I am doing when it happens that might cause it, for example it doesn't always happen when I start doing a look up field, it is always just random?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if the information above is to vague.

    Thanks,

    Chris
