Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Post - Error Permission Denied

    Hi All,

I have the field post rule on my PO_items table. Some reason, the A5 keep sent me a Error message which is "Error posting to table Products for record 1967 Error Permission denied"

So I created the Post Operation and run it then it post the records from Po_items table to Products table.

What is wrong the error on FieldRule Posting?

Re: Post - Error Permission Denied

Any chance another user has/had that record open in change mode? Or you had another form open with that record open in change mode?

      Stan,

      Is it included <tbl>.open ?

I used the Database Compact tool to check any opened tables. It runs ok.

That should not cause the error unless you use

        tbl.change_begin()

in the same script while the posting field rule is posting.

You can't post to a record in the products table if that record is in change mode.

          Stan,

How to find the left open form or table?

I went through scripts and forms but not a luck.

Re: Post - Error Permission Denied

Could be another field rule that fires in response to the posting field rule. Could be other things like something opening the "posted to" table in Exclusive or Read only mode.

I'd have to see the database to dig any further. Is it always record 1967 in the error message?

              Stan,

No, Every records from the Products table.

The fieldRule Posting does not work at all because the Locking, as Error note.

                John,

Most likely you have a conflict between two field rules.

Attach a zip of the database here or send it to me privately if you want.

Another Permission Denied Error from another form.

Why a5 does not give me the direction?

I think it's likely Alpha is telling you exactly what's wrong.

John, have you implemented security in this database? Is the error occurring when you log on as a member of a group that DOES NOT HAVE PERMISSION to make changes to the table Alpha is referencing?

                        Tom,

I do not have the implemented security in this database at all.
After I deleted some coding and calculated value, and start over as new. It works fine now.

I am not able add the Foreman and have an error message, Right after created new record. I have to close this form and open again then I am able to add a foreman record into table. I have several same style of this code on other forms and runs well except only two of location have the same problem, Access denied or Permission denied message. I am wondering why and what cause this?

Sounds like a Windows permissions error, not an Alpha internal error.

runs well except only two of location have the same problem
Check the user permissions for the database folder on those two machines.
