Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Repeat field from previous record (Equiv. ALT F in A4)

I need to rewrite an OLD app originally in A4. We have always used ALT F to just repeat a field from the previous record. What is the equivalent in A5?

    Thank you.

I don't use that feature but I believe it is ctrl shift f.

I found it under the Edit menu

A complex system that does not work is invariably found to have evolved from a simpler system that worked just fine.

      ctrl shift f.
Does not work on any of my apps. Does sporadically open a search/find.

I do not yet have an answer though.

          Works fine in V10.5 also.
          FYI:
CTRL SHFT D inserts today's date.
CTRL SHFT R inserts (copies) the previous record.

In testing I accidently hit CTRL SHFT G and it inserted the following for the 1st field but I have no idea what it is:
          505b9c13-3cdd-4e55-8f87-a46f42f0c6aa
The 2nd field would be something different. Those values seem to be different each time even when the previous value is the same, so they probably have nothing to do with the previous record.

As such (if that's what they are) they may be something generated/used internally by A5, probably on the fly since the value does not seem to stick to the record or field. The fields in my test table are character and there are no field rules for the table and only one table in the DB. As for keystroke shortcuts, there are none other than what A5 defines by default and none on this XP machine unless put there by some program without my knowledge. So I presume any 10.5 user would see the same thing (for me the same thing is produced in V9).

This presumably is inconsequential--just a curiosity.

                Guys,

I am on the newest v10.5 and ctrl+shift+F does not work in any of my apps.

I tried num and char fields, infact, all my fields and nothing.

I am working on a form, not a browse, would that make a difference?

EDIT: Checked and it does work in a browse. Not ok for me, but if it helps you??

Have you tried it while in ENTER mode in a form?

Yeas I have. It does not work. I am using an xp with 10.5 latest version. I have not tried v7 or the others though.

                    Only works in a browse.

                    strange

My testing was in a form in enter mode, A5 10.5, latest version on an XP box. Works perfectly. Strange indeed that it does not work for you.

Is form based on single table or a set?

To narrow this down we need a lot more information, both from folks who see it working and those who don't.

How about posting a simple example that either works or doesn't on your machine?

                          Tom:
It works in a form based on a table or a set.
In a set, it works both in the parent and child.
Works in a browse as well.

I was about to, but cannot send the app here. It is too large even zipped.

                            Anybody got any ideas?

The on DDM file needed is over 20 meg unzipped.
