Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Posting with xDialog and xBasic Field Rule events

    Hi All,

    I am studying with "Program your own Posting Rules" on the Learn A5. http://www.learn alpha.com/Posting/Posting.htm

    The examples, I made and followed the direction was fine and working well as long as I entered the data from table's Form.

    However, I created an xDialog form and I entered the data from this xDialog form, The Field Rules are firing at all. I think Something is still missing or I have to add on the other events to fire it.

    Does any one know or have an experience on this xDialog form case?

    I attached the zip files for your help.
    I want to add the data on Inventory table then posting a QTY to Stock table.

    *Using an xDailog form
    (1) Open the "Inventory_Edit" then click on Inventory Button which will opens the xDialog form.
    (2) Add some informations in the xDialog form then
    (3) Open "Stock" check the item was posted or not. -- I cannot get the Posting nor found that changes of the On_hand value.

    * Enter the data from table's Form
    (1) same as above #1
    (2) enter the data on the browse of Inventory form
    (3) Open "Stock"check the item was posted or not.-- Yes, I can see the result of posting.

    The action after the xdialog closes is to add a new record to the inventory table which it does for me.

        Add debug(1) to your cansaverecord event script like this.

        Code:
        [COLOR="red"]debug(1)[/COLOR]
        dim tbl as p
        dim vItem as c
        dim vOnHnd as n
        dim tInvent as p
        dim rInvent as n
        dim shared voldval as n
        dim shared entry_type as c
        tbl=table.get("Inventory")
        	vItem = tbl.ITEM
        	vOnHnd = tbl.onstock

        tInvent =table.open("stock")
        tInvent.index_primary_put("item")
        rInvent = tInvent.fetch_find(vitem)
        if rInvent <0 then
        	' no matching inventory item found
        	ui_msg_box("No matching stock entry found for",vitem,UI_STOP_SYMBOL)
        	tInvent.close()
        	end
        end if
        tInvent.change_begin()
        	select
        	    case entry_type ="enter"
        	    	tInvent.on_hand = tInvent.on_hand + vOnHnd
        	    case entry_type ="change"
        	        tInvent.on_hand = tInvent.on_hand + vOnHnd-voldval
        	end select

        tInvent.change_end(.t.)
        tInvent.close()
        You will see that the event does not fire when you use the xdialog but does fire if you enter the values manually in the browse.

          addition.gifYou can copy the script from the cansaverecord field rule event and add it as an inline xbasic script to the the inventory_dlg script.
