Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Email Letter to all Debtors

    Hi There,

I have prepared a letter to be sent to all customers. The letter has included all required addresses and email addresses (E_Mlf), and I am happy with that (Refer Attached Design and Result)

I want to email these letters - I select 'File' from the toolbar and select 'send' (email) - pdf format.

The 'Send an Email' box appears and waits for an email address to be entered into the 'To' address.

How do I invoke the sending of these letters to their respective email addresses (which are part of the letter) ?

I can probably do it by going down to X-Basic - but a feel there should be an easier way.

    Looking forward.

There is no "easy" option for looping through a table and sending an email to all or a filtered subset of records.
    There can be only one.

I have not been very impressed with the reporting capabilities in A5v10.5 WAS but there several third party report writers which work with dbf or sql files. Liveware Publishing offers pdfBurst which does what you want - I have not used it in a while but it is fast and efficient. You might also check fast-report for their reporting solutions offer better scalability for sql. I have abandoned A5W for most reporting due to slow performance and drill down limitations.

that's dandy gdcorp but this has been posted on desktop and I don't believe this is referencing A5W. I just sent 958 emails with a loop script from within A5v10.5 desktop app without problems.

Sorry I usually only post on WAS as I have nearly stopped using the desktop (except very limited cases) as much of my applications must run on Android phones. The windows report writers I referenced work regardless of Alpha desktop or WAS. Each accesses the data directly.
I agree that the loop script should work using the desktop but I still feel that the ability to generate detail/subdetail reports and multi-page reports with conditional graphics, barcodes, different page sizes for different pages in the report (ie envelope & letter) is handled much better in the third party apps.

Alpha's report mailer came with my V8 deal so I tried it for automated batch sending account statements to customers. Didn't get it to do that. That was with first eyes on Alpha back then and I didnt even have the data in A5 to send. . .
So I did it using MS Powershell scripting
I should try now (with some tips) to do it in A5.

I took a look at the feature set and specs of the report generator you mentioned and they are very impressive. So was the price.

If there is no data then the report will not be generated.
