Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    A5 v9 not working in windows 7 - 64-bit

I upgraded from xp to win 7 and initially A5 worked fine.

Now when I open a table or browser in A5 and all of the headers and data are missing and the program is frozen. I think the app gets locked in the creation of a new record stage. At this point, there is no way to close the open table or the A5 app. I must use the task manager to close it down.

I've tried reinstallation combinations involving removing a5 and registry entries using Revo Uninstaller then reinstalling and applying the v9 patch. I've also tried making a new table and new database with the same results.

Finally, I downloaded the A5 v10 trial and it works fine with the previously tested database.
The table showed the headers properly and all of the row data.

After v10 proved OK, I reinstalled v9 and the problem remains.

Any suggestions to get v9 working again?

v8 runs perfectly on win7 ultimate / professional 64bit (havent tested on other versions of win7).
try using compartibility mode: right click on launching icon and choose troublshoot compartibility.

      Marcus, V9 works fine on Win7 64bit.
      2 things will cause problems,
      1) as Mbuso says, try running in compatability mode, and also launch Alpha as "Administrator".
      2) DON'T load Alpha V9 in the default programmmes directory. Put it somewhere else as the new version of Windows handles access to programme folders in a more restricted way.

Along with that, the root of the OS drive (C usually) will not allow the creation of even a text file with code (in my experience). My Documents, or better yet, a completely different partition or physical drive would be my suggestion as they do not have the restrictions....there must be a way but even if I figured it out, there is no way I am willing to spend the time explaining it to whatever client needs to run the software.

Thanks for your suggestions. Tables view correctly using the virtual XP window solution. I tried reloading the app into 'My Documents' but that did not make a difference.

Marcus, if you wish, please send me a copy of the app you are having problems with - take out as much data as you need but give me something to work with - and I'll try it on the Desktop, Laptop (Win7 64) and the Netbook Demo PC.
