Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Using Combo List

I have built an app and I have a database with Company, Name, Address, Phone, Email and I use combo list to select the Company from the Company field as a selector when adding a new record. I want to be able to populate the Name, Address, Phone, Email with the data from the same record that I select the Company from so that each one does not need to be filed out if there is already that info connected with that Company name from before. I have read but can't find out how to do this...Thanks.

    Suggestion.

    Company Data Table
Put all corporate demographics here and have an ID for the Company

    Data Table
Put all of the data for the company here and have an ID field same format as the ID in the Company Table

    Set
Join Company Data Table and Data Table on ID

    Play with the attached.

        Re: Using Combo List

I sure appreciate the help. However, I am wanting to be able to pick a company from the combo edit list used for the company field when adding a new record and have it populate the company, name, address, phone and email fields which are all separate. Is this possible? I cannot find anything that helps me do that....

Jerry, try this. Add a record to Corp1 Form. Look at the field rules behind the Table.

                      Ted,

Along this same process I am wanting to add the record for the Company info to another database that stores only the Company, Name, Address, Phone, Email so that I can use that as my drop list as the current database has 10 company slots that are all used separately so my drop down list may not include a company that I want to use in the company1 slot since it was input into the database as company2. I would love for the drop list to be unique but still want to store info for all companies in the database.

The lookup Table can be populated using Append - Replace existing Add unique.
Can you post a bit more on the app please?

                            Ted,

I am writing an app that is to help with my friends delivery business. He has people that call (stored as the caller info with Company, Name, Address, Phone, Email) and then there are others that become part of the delivery process (each having the same fields in the main database but under Company1, Name1, Address1, Phone1, Email1....though Company10, Name10, Address10, Phone10, Email10) and we store each on in the same record but in these separate fields depending on who they are in the chain. The caller, payer and pickup and drop points all get entered into the proper fields in the database. When the next delivery comes up it could be the person that was the final drop in the previous delivery that is the caller or payer or pickup point and I want all of the companies that are stored to be available to select from for any of the slots rather than just Company1 info from previously entered Company1. This is why I am wanting to store the data from any of the different ones involved in a single delivery to the separate database so that all the choices for the next delivery can include any previous company. I hope this is making sense....
