Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Help with Content and Filter Expressions: Table.external_record_content_get()

I've searched the forums, but am still have trouble making this work. When a user clicks the BCC button, an Xdialog appears prompting them to check which email group(s) they would like to send a blind copy to. After clicking the Ok button, the BCC memo field should be set to contain all the email addresses that belong to the checked email group(s), separated by commas. I am using the Table.external_record_content_get() method, because my current form is based off a different set.

I have a button on my form with 2 actions:

The first presents an Xdialog box to get the value of vEmailGroup. This is a Check Box-List Box computed automatically from a different table called email_addresses, displaying the Emailgroup field.

The second action is setting the value of the field called bcc on my current form.
    Code:
    table.external_record_content_get("email_addresses","emailaddress","emailaddress","emailgroup = ' " + vEmailGroup + " ' ")

With this current filter I get "Error loading emailaddress: The system cannot find the file specified." I don't understand why it gives me this error, as I specified email_addresses as the table.

    Thanks in advanced!

Re: Help with Content and Filter Expressions: Table.external_record_content_get()

Is email_addresses a part of the database?

You can see if locating that table is the problem by

    Code:
    table.external_record_content_get("[COLOR="#FF0000"]drive:\path\[/COLOR]email_addresses[COLOR="#FF0000"].dbf[/COLOR]","emailaddress","emailaddress","emailgroup = ' " + vEmailGroup + " ' ")
Also, the .external_record.......() function returns a crlf() delimited list. You probably want to wrap it in a strtran() to change the crlf() to commas or semicolons as is appropriate to your use.
    There can be only one.

Re: Help with Content and Filter Expressions: Table.external_record_content_get()

Stan, email_addresses is part of the database (though I did also try it with the drive, path, and extension). It appears that Alpha Five is looking at the 3rd argument, thinking it's a database file. Just to check, I changed the third argument to say emailaddress3 as so:

      Code:
      table.external_record_content_get("drive:\path\email_addresses.dbf","emailaddress","emailaddress3","emailgroup = ' " + vEmailGroup + " ' ")

And it gives me the Error loading emailaddress3: The system cannot find the file specified. \\Fileserver\Alpha5\emailaddress3.DBF (and of course this file wouldn't exist in the first place, since emailaddress is the name of a field, not a table.) I don't really understand why it's doing that, when it's supposed to be looking at the argument as a character order expression (in which should be ordered by the emailaddress field).

Thank you, I will wrap the function in the strtran(), once I can get this part working.

You should not name a field with "email".

I haven't named any field "email." I just have the fields "emailaddress" and "emailgroup."

Your field name starts with "email". It's a reserved alpha name. If it is not too much hassle change it. Also, make your variable vEmailGroup global.

I renamed the fields with "email" in them, but I still get the error message. Here is the test database.

Your spaces after the single quote are making nothing pass the filter, use...

                Code:
                table.external_record_content_get("email_addresses","EML_Address","EML_Address","EML_Group = '" + vEmailGroup + "'")
                or

                Code:
                table.external_record_content_get("email_addresses","EML_Address","EML_Address","EML_Group = "+ quote(vEmailGroup) )
                There can be only one.

                  Try this:
                  table.external_record_content_get("email_addresses","EML_Address","EML_Address","EML_Group =var->vEmailGroup")
Did you make the variable global?

Re: Help with Content and Filter Expressions: Table.external_record_content_get()

Aha! That was it. I'm using the crlf_to_comma(), and added a space to it.

                    Code:
                    crlf_to_comma(table.external_record_content_get("email_addresses","space(1) + trim(EML_Address)","EML_Address","EML_Group = "+ quote(vEmailGroup) ))
It's almost working as it should! It works great if I just tick one checkbox. However, if I want to select more than one group and tick 2 or 3 checkboxes nothing shows up in the BCC field. I'm going to take a wild guess and say that the last part needs some tweaking?

Stan, I'm sorry, but I tried that code and it still appears as a crlf list instead of comma separated. Building these expressions is quite the challenge since it isn't very intuitive for me (yet)!
