Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Browse problem in Windows 7 64

I can not see or add records in the default browse or one I built it opens but nothing is there then I can not close it. The only way I can close the browse is to force Alpha to shut down in the Task Manager.

I have Alpha Five V9 on a Windows 7 64 bit HP laptop.
I have tried turning off the anti virus but it doesn't help I have Trend Micro Client/Server Security Agent.
If I restart in Safe Mode I do not have the problem so it must be something running in the back ground or a security issue.

I have searched the forum and found nothing that helps.

Does any one have any idea what could be causing this?

    Thanks

    Dennis

Did you move from some other windows straight to 7/64 bit? There is some advice here about A5V9 and windows 7.

It is a brand new computer. I installed it on the C drive in it's own folder. I have installed it on other Windows 7 computers with out a problem.
The browse seems to be the only thing not working.

Have you run Alpha first time as Administrator?
Are you using RunTime or Dev?

I have tried running as Administrator but I am not sure if it was the first time.
I have the Platinum edition I believe it is RunTime. How do I tell for sure?

Using the runtime you cannot make any design changes, using the developer edition you can.

Re: Browse problem in Windows 7 64

It's not a problem with the database I can go to another computer with Windows 7 64 bit open the AlphaFive database it works the way it is suppose to no problems what so ever.
Since I can open the database with Windows 7 running in the safe mode I believe there there is something that is running in the background that is causing the problem I just can't figure out what it is.

                    http://www.whatsrunning.net/download.aspx
Suggest you get a copy of What's Running and load it. It's invaluable, and you can stop/start processes very easily, including taking snapshots of the config before you change anything.
It's Free and I recommend it.

Re: Browse problem in Windows 7 64

Here is what I figured out so far.

Screen 1 is what I see when I try to open a browse. I am unable to see records or columns I also can not close the window.

Screen 2 there is a narrow gray vertical bar on the left side of the window if I hover over it a set of arrows will appear and the bar can be dragged to the right at this point the columns will appear but not like they should be. No records appear.

Screen 3 if the previous record arrow is pressed one record will appear if the first record arrow is pressed all the records appear and the browse becomes fully functional as Screen 4 shows.

This is not a fix but it is a work around this only happens with the browse. It happens with any data base I have tried, the data bases work fine on other Windows 7 computers so it has to be something with this computer it is a HP EliteBook running Windows 7 64 .

Re: Browse problem in Windows 7 64

Are these screen shots of the Default Browse, or one you created?
                          Either way.
Open the Object Explorer when in Design Mode for a Browse and see if the settings have been corrupted or are being overwritten.
In addition, depending on where you loaded Alpha, you may have issues saving data if you have placed it in the Program Files folder.
Suggest you check out the installation footprint of the ones which are working.
What happens if you use the attached? There is an embedded and a saved bwse in the Form.

                          I think I've got it!
You recently loaded V9 and I bet you haven't added the Patches which bring it up to the latest version!
The version you are using, and the version the app was developed in really need to be the same number else you may get unexpected errors.
Help/About Alpha Five will show the release and buld details.

I have the latest version Platinum V 9 build 2095 Addins build 3295

I doesn't matter if it is a default browse or created they do the same thing.

AlphaFive has it's own folder on the C drive. I never save any files in the program folders they are either on the server or in their own folder.

The embedded browse seams to be ok but if I try to edit the form with the embedded browse the browse is a black box see (screen 5). If I open Windows in the Safe Mode I can edit the embedded browse like normal. I have not been able to figure out how I can get the embedded browse to change back to normal so that I can edit it. At least I have figured out a work around so that I can edit a browse but no luck with editing the embedded browse.

As with every other file the file you sent works fine on my desktop computer it's just the laptop. I can open any file that has been created or edited on my laptop with my desktop computer and they work fine.

Just figured out if I re-size the embedded browse while editing the embedded browse will show up like it should then I just undo the re-size.
