Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

          A few details, please.

What type of network do you have set up? Have you set the permissions on the server machine to allow access from the other?

There's a point beyond which unsighted support is not constructive for anyone.
I set this at "Can you see the the drive you want to share from the other computer"

From the question asked the computers may not even be connecting at all.

              Re: network

The computers are connected. I am unable to access the data and programs on that computer only for some reason it was saying something about the server and that access denied.

                Re: network

It's a permissions issue then. Most likey the computer has not got Sharing turned on. See Stan's post and screenshot.
Discuss with the Systems Administrator if you have one else, read the Windows documentation about connecting computers and sharing data.
This isn't an Alpha problem really, and you need to be a lot more specific. "Saying something about......." is far too vague. Send a screen shot if you can, and you could also look at running the Windows self test for Network problems.

                    Re: network

So i fixed the other problems. I got the program across the computers, but now when i add product, or change a form data base on the database on the server is not saving for some reason and i dont now why is it something to do with operations or code were it updates across the network of the computers, and some computers are telling me i need more licenses but license is already the computer. Its only when i try to run the database i made across all the computers, but all the other databases are fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

                      Re: network

On each of the computers running your database, go to the control panel and choose the detail view of the tables/sets tab. You should see something like my attachment shows. Note the Full Name column shows the drive and path to the tables that are part of the database. If all machines have the same information in this view then you are correctly set up. If not, you need to correct them.

                        Re: network

In Alpha Five a "database" holds tables. "Tables" hold your data. When you say "all databases are fine" are you talking about different databases or different tables? ( this is very different than Alpha Four )

Stan: Ok i checked the name of the files and they match up, but i think im still doing something wrong. What i do to send it to the other computers is that i zip the file put it in my documents so i can access it from the other computers on the network. I open the network file then unzip it and open it with alpha on the other computer. Is this wrong?

                            i zip the file
I don't know what is in "the file".

The proper way to network a database is to place the database directory on a network server. Then you install Alpha Five on each machine that is to access the database. This is usually the runtime version of Alpha rather than the developer version.

You then open Alpha on each machine and open the database on the server. With the database open in Alpha you can create a shortcut on the desktop.

The users then just open the shortcut and they are connected to the database.

Sorry about that still trying use all of the correct phrases and not being so vague. Is there a way to make developer versions do that since im out of licenses?
