Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Button Color Change Based on Data

Hello, I have a form that contains a "memo button" that when pressed, opens a "memo field" and user at that point inputs there data and hits save and at which point the "memo field" closes/hides. The problem is that after saving, the memo field closes/hides the only way a user would know there is data in that field is to hit the "memo button" and open the memo field, sometimes they have made notes other times not. I like the idea of the memo field hiding but would like the button pressed to change colors based on data in the memo field.

    Example:

no data in memo field - button stays it's original color..... data in memo field - button changes to yellow

PS: I know how to do this using V10 and dynamic properties, but some users in my company have V9 and I'm not sure how to exactly do this for this version.

Ted, not real familiar with conditional objects. Any way of getting you to give me and example of what your say in your previous thread using my example?

Re: Button Color Change Based on Data

Keith's example of button changing to yellow works great for those users with V10 and dynamic properties, but when used on V9 does nothing. I simply want memo button to be shown at all times and color of button change to "Yellow" when data is present in 'Memo' field. Works exactly as I want in V10 but I have many users with V9.... JON

Try using the Show and Hide objects using Action Scripting.
Attach it to the Form Events.

You will notice a field entitled [If Show/hide conditions] in the A/Script panel.
If you create 2 buttons with different colours, you can Show/Hide depending on the value in the Memo Field.
Was my humble offering in post #7 of no use?

Thanks Ted for the quick reply. Your post in #7 was great, just not what I was looking for. Here's an explanation for Ray's design using a two layer (two card) conditional object. The buttons on his CO aren't functional yet. You'd have to add the desired onPush event script to each, but you already know how to do that. this screencast just shows you how he built the CO.

WOW Tom thanks a lot. I understand what going on. Makes you appreciate how easy this can be done in V10 using dynamic properties.

Once again thank you for taking time out of your day to put this video together... JON

Attached is the latest example of this thread. Thanks to all who posted, I finally figured out conditional objects. I have one issue thus the attached example. Is there a way when user either "adds" or "deletes" data in the memo field that the button will change colors accordingly. Right know, user must change to the previous record or next record then come back to record for button's color change to take place.
