Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Form will not open, error msg states "the system can't find the file specified .SET"

Form will not open, error msg states "the system can't find the file specified .SET"

Any help will be gratefully received.

When attempting to open a form in an Alpha5 database (unused in 6 months) I receive the message "Error loading dandy_no.set:The system can not find the file specified. network path .SET"

The SET file mentioned in the message is present and located at the stated network path.

Other forms in the same database are fine.

Can anyone throw any light on this issue?

Re: Form will not open, error msg states "the system can't find the file specified .S

Has the set been inadvertantly DROPPED from the database? i.e. does it appear in the list of tables and sets on the tables/sets tab of the Alpha Five control panel?

The set "dandy_no" is still displayed in the tables/set tab.

When I attempt to view its design, I get the same message - "Error loading dandy_no.set:The system can not find the file specified. network path .SET"

The system can not find the file specified. network path .SET"
Seem like this has come up before. It is not dandy_no.set that is not found, it is

<no name here>.set as in .set

        I'll look for previous references.

I'm wondering if other forms are based on tables or sets in the same "path" ? Do they work correctly?

Can you show us the actual path for your database, and then, separately, for your set?

What's changed in the last 6 months? New machine? Network ?

Searched for a "<no name here>.set as in .set" file in the database folder - there isn't one.

Then looked in the folders of other Alpha V databases and all the other dbs with sets have a "<no name here>.set as in .set" file in their folders.

What does the "<no name here>.set as in .set" file contain?

There shouldn't be any set defintions (and support files) without names. I think it is some sort of corruption.

              Still looking for earlier references.

Meanwhile, can you recreate the set manually, save it, right click on the form name in the control panel, choose Copy To...

No changes in the last 6 months, the database is residing on the same server / network domain.

Other forms with the same path work O.K

                The path for the database: \\ivnt16\Alpha 5 Databases\Dandy Change Request\Dandy Change Request.adb

                Path for the set: \\ivnt16\Alpha 5 Databases\Dandy Change Request\Dandy_No.SET

I like Stan's suggestion. But when you create the new set give it a different name.

                    Tom/Stan,

                    Issue resolved.
As I was recreating the set as you suggested, two sets of fields that I attempted to link were flagged as having conflicting formats (one being character the other numeric).
Changed the fields to match in the relevant tables and....
The problem is resolved, the original set & forms now function.

                    Thank's for your help.
                    From across the pond,
                    Cutty.

Another misleading error message, glad you got it sorted.

If indeed you do have no name set files in some database directories I would suggest you make a backup, zip up those set files (.set, .sem, .sex), then delete the originals. See how the database performs. You can always restore them if you have trouble.

                      Those files shouldn't be there.
                      There can be only one.
