This adjustment will close the leads table whether or not the result is .T., which should be what you want.

Its a script for screen scraping it works just trying to weed out leads that i don't want before it writes them makes it easier to sort thru. There is 30 per page scraped and can be several thousand as it loops through pages

You don't need a close() with that function.

Show us the whole of the code you are using.

it seems to work up untill i get the error max number of open tables allowed. how would i do a table.close() on that function?

If you have an index on the City field you can use the EXIST() function. Check this discussion in the helps.

I have some xbasic code that i would like to query a table and if found do something or end if

cty contains the value of a city. and i want to check to see if it's found on table cities

the table cities only has one field and it is city.

example:

cty="tampa"
tbl=table.open("cities")
'just an idea here 

results=tbl.query(cty) 'all i need to know is if it returns as finding the city
if results = .T. then 
ktbl=table.open("keep")
ktbl.enter_begin()
ktbl.name = var1
ktbl.city = cty

ktbl.close

can't seem to find just what im looking for in the help files
