Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    =var->AskC_SO

    In the WOrkOrder form I am trying to create a Print Preview button that I can run the query by "Customer" or by "Ponumber" and then print.
    I have this in another db and it works fine. I can't figure what I am doing wrong.
    Thanks,

    Re: =var->AskC_SO

    I created this query by adding the ask var to a saved query and then added to the print preview button that i added, now I have done this a different way as shown in the pic. At first it didn't work. I did a compact and shut off and restarted A5 and still didn't work. This morning it works. I didn't restart computer, just restarted A5.

    In the attached file of the previous thread it would work on the name but not the number.

      Re: =var->AskC_SO

      Based on the pic above, I added 3rd query option using the "and" and it worked for a while and now it does not work. I added some records to one of the tables, which I don't think that should make a difference.
      If I just use the query genie and add the conditions I want and then go through the Print/Preview it works ok. I am just trying to eliminate some steps.
      What am I doing wrong on the "Script Genie: Preview a Layout"?
      Thanks

        David,

        Try the other way. See attached screen shots
        I added two buttons and created it with action scripts.
        Print bttn 01 A.jpgPrint bttn 01 b.jpgPrint bttn 02 A.jpgPrint bttn 02 B.jpg
        You may be find what is the problem with your code.

            Your query string is
            = (LEFT(CUSTOMERREFFULLNAME,LEN("hook tackle")) = "hook tackle" ) .OR. (REFNUMBER = "" )

            Firstly you prompt for a PO number but search for REFNUMBER
            Secondly, the refnumber cannot be left blank unless you only want to include blank refnumbers
            The randomness you experience is more a case of COINCIDENCE

              Re: =var->AskC_SO

              thanks Ray in Capetown. I found the wrong PO/REFNUMBER after I uploaded the file. Secondly, What you say makes sense.
              So your statement
              = (LEFT(CUSTOMERREFFULLNAME,LEN("hook tackle")) = "hook tackle" ) .OR. (REFNUMBER = "" )
              is the one that should work? I will try that also.
              I am still working on johnkoh method to see if I can make that work.

              I have a similar query in another db that work fine.
              In the other db I have a button that runs a query that I created with the query genie:

              (left(Worker,len(var->AskC_Worker)) = var->AskC_Worker ) .and. (Pay_date = var->AskD_Date_Paid )
              This is not a Print Preview button, just a querry and this works with the date blank.
              attached is a screen shot of the 2 conditions. I can't get the 2nd pic to load.
              I'm not smart enough to know why one works and one doesn't.

                Re: =var->AskC_SO

                Well it DOES appear to work in your example.....
                According to the condition statement - remember in this one you have customer ="" .OR. refnumber = ""
                Thats either one or the other for it to be included

                note that;
                In the first example of yours you have .AND. - wherein the two conditions must both be true

                  David,

                  to know why one works and one doesn't.
                  Just try to get the CONCEPTION of the flow programming, like the Ray's comment.

                  This are very different code between "A= x " .or. "B = y" and
                  "A= x " .and. "B = y" and you will get different result

                  To print or review the records, Finding the records with something which called "Filter "

                  Code:
                  How to create a "Filter "
                  Case a - Print current records which current view records at a form level. - you do not need the filter again
                  Case b - Using the tool such as
                               (1) A5's Tool -- Limited to manipulate
                               (2) create your own style tool -- Unlimited (?, may not right word but you can control )
