Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Alphasports-fire district db

    While looking and trying to adapt Alphasports for a database, I noticed that when you go to the invoice page and press print this invoice, it is stuck on the same invoice. Also, while changing customers, the embedded browse doesn't change. I am trying to create a database for a fire department(and first responders) where they can keep track of fireman calls so that they can pay the small fee they get for calls. (volunteer). I am modeling the db after alphasports which has customer (firemen) invoices with embedded browse (keep current track of their calls), each fire call (events) and all the reports as such. There are three separate fire stations and the district. I need reports separate for each and one for the district. I get very close to completing this and then the db doesn't work when I add new fireman, events,... It has been a few years since I worked with alpha and volunteered to do this for the firemen. I know this is a long explanation but I am asking for both advice and patience. This should not be difficult but I have been working on this for a few months.

    Thanks,

    Are you speaking of your modified database or the original AlphaSports? Easiest way to get help is to attach your database here, if that's the problem child, and include instructions how to replicate the problems.

    Your issue above seems to be that you have changed something that makes the filter for the invoice report not find the proper record(s).

      Check the invoice report to see what filter is saved there.

      Sometimes when you click on an report (invoice in this case) button to print a report and then put the report in design mode, the filter sticks to the report - and you don't want it to.

      Just change the filter to blank and the filter from the button will work again.

          Your print/preview button refers to date ranges that don't exist.

          Delete or comment out the whole code and add this.

          Code:
          if option = 1 then 'print today's invoices
          	filter = "inlist2(fireman_id,[var->invoice_numbers])"
          else if option = 2 then 'range of dates
          	filter = "between(fireman_id,[varD->begin_inv],[varD->end_inv])"
          end if

          'substitute the parameters in the filter expression
          filter = replace_parameters(filter,local_variables())

          if print_option = "preview" then
          	report.preview("Invoice",filter)
          else
          	report.print("invoice",filter)

              Ted you changed the radio object for what the choices are, but changed nothing in the button onPush event.

                      Choose Mamou Fire Department
                      Firemen events
                      Go to Firemen 05 Ray Manuel---you will see an event M1
                      Press "print this report"
                      preview---blank report
                      If you choose another firemen and then press New, pick an event, then Print this report--doesn't do it.

                      How can I automatically make the invoice_number the firemen_id? I played with the field rules but can't seem to figure it out.

                        Why would you make the invoice number the fireman_id?

                        Once the invoice is paid then the fireman should start a new invoice.

                        Going down the wrong path is causing too many problems for you.

                        Treat the fireman as a customer and use the fireman_id like a customer id. Use the invoice_id to group an invoice together.

                        Your invoive_id problem with the line items is because you changed the field rule for invoice_items->invoice_id to default to blank.

                          Al,
                          My purpose is to have a database where the fire department can keep track of each fireman's calls. I want to have a running list of events that can be tied to each fireman that attend the call (event--ie house fire, rescue, etc). By using the concept of an invoice where an item(event or call) could be added to the ongoing invoice, then at any time, the running total of what each fireman has earned could be checked and printed. I may be making this more complicated then I should. In the database I am working on: Events are like products--can be added to an ongoing invoice for each fireman(customers). Sure hope I made this clear.
                          Thanks
