Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

I am evaluating A5 but I have a problem. Please help me!!!
When I use a look up table, if the number is with two decimals, then the result is the origin number times 100.

For example; if my number is 23.50, and I call it by a look up table, then the result is 2350.00.

My origin and result fields are Number type with 15 widht and 2 decimals.

Where am I wrong? Should I always divide the result by 100?

    RE: decimal problem

Birol, it shouldn't be necessary to have to divide the lookup value.

Is it possible the receiving table has a field rule in place which is multiplying the lookup value?

Is it possible you are looking up character string values and using an expression to convert to numeric? or vice versa? if so, perhaps your expression is mishandling the decimal.

If you wish, you can attach a zipped copy of your database to a message in this forum. Then we could check it for you. There are size limits on the upload, so you may have to reduce the size of your tables before zipping them up.

      RE: decimal problem

      Dear Tom,
Thank you very much for your answer, but none of them is valid for me.
I am sending a zipped sample.

There you can see the problem more clearly.

In sales, section, if you try to enter a new record, you will see the problem.

Sorry. Your sample works fine here.

        I'm using vers. 4.5 build 266 on a Windows 98SE system.

Tested your form 'adasd' and your browse 'aaa'. Both work fine. If I add a new record to the Sales table, using the lookup to the Good table, the cost of the item is recorded correctly. Is there something else I should look for, or try?

          RE: decimal problem

if you use comma as a decimal separator (if you're fm Europe), this is a known A5 bug, which as alleged will be fixed in A5V5.
          Otherwise I don't know what's happening.

            Dear Ales,
Yes you are right. I am from Europe -Turkey-

If I try with point -not comma- then it is again wrong. If I write 67.87 it appears as 6787.00.

I wish this bug will be fixed in version 5.

Thank you very mucg for your help.

              Dear Tom,
Thank you very much for your kind help.

My version and operating systems are same with you.

As Ales says, it should be a bug for European users.

I am waiting version 5 to buy.

yr whole system shd be set up for dot "." separator (not "comma", I mean also the default Windows settings) than it shd work properly.
I'm fm Croatia and hv still difficult time to learn A5 - I'm using for long time A4.
But evrybody says A5 is much better, so I'm forcing me too n don't give up.
