Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Exiting Browse object

    Yes another problem,

I have a form which is tabbed on one of the tabs is a embedded
browse (to input an item list for the order).

If the user enters some new data into the form then skips the other tabs and enters data into the browse when they click
back to the form to enter some more data the form has switched
    to change mode.

Why does it do this and is there a way to keep the form in enter mode until a button is pressed to save it??

    Many thanks for your help

    Mike

    RE: Exiting Browse object

    Mike,

Wne you go from fields on a form to fields in an embedded browse, generally, you're going from one table to another, thus the records is saved. When you go back to the form's fields from the browse, and begin entering data, it has to go to change mode because you're changing the record.

Reset the tab order, found in the Arrange menu of form design, and set that tab order to include all fields in the form before going to the browse.

Knowing what you can achieve will not become reality until you imagine and explore.

      RE: Exiting Browse object

      Thanks for reply,

Because the form is in tabbed format they can click onto any tab and fill in details so this causes problem.

Is there a way then to make the tabs change when the last field on the previous tab is filled and so moving onto next field in say tab2 automatically - thus the form flows towards this browse as last???

      Regards

      Mike

        Mike,
Maybe a different approach is in order? Have you thought of using a conditional object instead? Use a button to change layers, you can code (or hide/show) the button as appropriate to move to the next layer when the desired fields are filled.

        Just a thought.

          Thanks peter for your idea,

I will give it a try, but do you know of a way to make the tabs change as I think your idea would not be with tabs??

            RE: Exiting Browse object

I have about seven embedded browses on the bottom half of my form,in a tabbed object, and many buttons scattered around. When the user pushes a button to add a new customer (the only way they can add a record,) I hide the tabbed object, and all the buttons. I display an "Escape to Cancel" message where the tabbed object was. When they either save the new record and/or esc to cancel, I redisplay all the hidden objects.

Another method is to use a different form completely for entering the new parent.

Otherwise - they will definitely get in trouble.

Right, no tabs, because I'm suggesting a cond object instead of a tabbed one.
