Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Applications

    Helo to all,
    I made 3 applications :
    STORE
    BUYS
    STOCK-CONTROL
and i still dont know if it will be a good idea or not,but
let explore it all in A5...
Im in STORE application wich is the main thing,i want buttons that opens the other applications and be able to return to the main application wich is STORE,like i use to do in A4,remember CallApp or simply open a set in another directory.
So the application root looks like this :

    Application 1 : " C:CLAUDIOSTORESTORE.ADB "
    Application 2 : " C:CLAUDIOSTOREBUYSBUYS.ADB "
    Appliation 3 : " C:CLAUDIOSTORESTOCKSTOCK.ADB "

So what can i do to make a button open an application outside the current application ?
Thanks for any help you can give me.

    Claudio,

Will this work? I created a button with the button genie choosing Built in Action, Micellaneous and Run Another Application. Works like a charm.

      Ken,
I have v4.5/266. There is no "Run Another Application". Are you sure that you are not using a Beta ver. 5?

        RE: Applications

        Peter,

        I too have 4.5/266.

What he probably meant was "Run another Program" on the button genie from the toolbox. Create the button, choose the first option - Built in Action (perform a single task). Choose Miscellaneous, and choose "Run another Program". Browse to the program you want and the button will run the program.

        Regards,

          Jay,
If what Ken says, works, it must open a second instance of A5.

Yes, I meant, Run Another Program.

It works well for opening other programs but needs an .exe file to do it. A5 database don't have an .exe file. I did get it to open another instance of A5 but had to click file and then the database name one the instance was open.

Easier to have a shortcut on the MS Office bar (if you have it)at the top of the screen. Just a 1 click shot from there.

            Anyhow, close but no cigar.

              RE: Applications

              Hello CV,

Version 5 will have this ability built in, but you can do it in version 4.5 by using the sys_send_keys() command. The drawback to this is that you have to hard code the path unless you do a little bit more xbasic and find the database you want to use and then feed the path to sys_send_keys().

                RE: Applications

In 4.5 wouldn't you use sys_open("yourappname.adb") which would open a second instance of A5 running the specified application so long as the "adb" extension was associated with alpha5.

                    RE: Applications

This has been brought up before and I built a routine to do this a long time ago. However, I found it to be a bit cumbersome and take a lot of resources. &nbspSo, I finally ended up creating a new folder with just my application shortcuts in it and then put a shortcut to the folder on my Windows taskbar. Now I can get to any application quickly and it has the advantage of being able to put all the command options (title, icon, etc.) in the shortcut.
